Especially regarding a situation you weren't even sure about in the first place?

All advice that does not contain useful hard facts is shit advice. I mean it's nice and all and it shows people care but since when did it ever change anything?

Shoosh Baz.

Advice must contain hard facts? Well, there goes my concept of advice. Isn't advice usually about 98% bullshit? Saying what one wants to be told? Etc. etc.?

I think I agree with you. Like you say, it's all about emotional support and telling a person what they want to be told. As such it's nice, but not really advice at all, in that it isn't 'taken' in the way Elmo suggests.

Antony takes it all very seriously.

Oh, yes, I've done that. Don't worry, lots of us have done it. What is it telling you about yourself - that's the thing, and the key to turning a bad situation to your advantage. Advice is often given by those who project what they want for themselves onto others. We're all trapped in this in varying degrees. Forgive yourself.

I don't do it too often really, but if I am going to take that step and seriously give someone advice, it certainly won't just be whatever I think the person wants to hear. Because that's just support - not advice. Much more likely to tell them what they don't want to hear and perhaps lose a popularity point or two, but hey, it's worth it if I care.

On the other hand - when people give me advice, I usually just take it as an opportunity to be contrary - just for the sake. It's quite lame.

Or maybe the advice was shitty WRT its intention, but what you did with it is not something you should regret? Maybe someone out there appreciates your 'mistake'.

it was beautiful and funny, not wrong.
