I'll be there if I still haf MUNGY. What happened to the FT birthday thingy?

Graham, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

FT Birthday Thingy fast-mutating into FT Summer Party i.e. my weekends are filling up and I've not had time/energy to sort anything out. After I move probably.

Tom, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Obviously I object to the facism of it all)

Graham, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i will be there. perhaps i'll even finally meet gareth...

toby, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, I'm back!

I say - here's an ILE meet-up which I can actually come to! I will certainly be there. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

If Dr C can come also then that would be fantastic!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dr. C, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If it is shifted, please be on Wednesday (10th) or after, I will have MONEY then. Bloody ITV Digital.

DG, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wednesday = not good

Graham, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

as I arrive back from Paris on that day at 6.15 pm can we keep it on the Thursday? There will be duty free chocolate and stuff.....

and if it changes can someone phone me as I'll go straight there from Victoria.

chris, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I were to turn up, not knowing anyone yet, a) how do I find the right people, and b) are you likely to be friendly to a new person?

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i thort you knew andrew l, martin?

mark s, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew L has been among my dearest friends for more than 20 years now - but I don't yet know if he's coming.

Martin Skidmore, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a) surely you must recognise Famous Internet Journalist Tom Ewing?
b) yes

RickyT, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Will Tom Ewing be there???? WOW!!!!!

chris, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Does Tom have Reign in Blood yet? (did nathalie send him a copy?) If not I will bring him a CD-r of it!

jel --, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh God, I heard Tom Ewing will be there. I hear he's obnoxious. This is why I will not be going. Not because I don't live in London.

Ally C, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

May see you there.

Mark C, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not sure I can make Thursday, prior commitments...but I'll see.

DG, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Now that Tom is going to be there, you can all play that famous game Beat The Paparazzi Off (With A Stick).

Dan Perry, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I don't want to go if Famous Internet Journalist Tom Ewing is going to be there. He's become so conceited.

Graham, Thursday, 4 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this still happening? And on Thursday?

Anna, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Very important to make sure doesn't clash with Pokemon musical.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes it's still happening, and yes on Thursday.

Tom, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes and Yes.

There will be a competition for the best hat worn as well.

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know if my hat can compete with Lixi's fur job.

Pete - are you at all involved with the NUS?

Anna, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete IS the NUS

RickyT, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Vaguely. My Union is affiliated and we actually pay our subs. Why.... (He asked tentatively).

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to the NUS ents conference in Reading on Wednesday night (or Thursday morning) and I just wondered if anyone else I knew was going. (Also the reason for me checking the Thursday facts)

Anna, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, we don't usually send anyone along to that (though it is a good piss up) cos we don't really have a venue so the student who goes comes back having booked fifteen acts which we can't put on anywhere. I went three years ago - good fun - but student ents reps can be terribly, terribly serious (careerists careering....)

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know. About the careerism. I've been to a couple on some flimsy student journalism pretexts, but this time I have ended up as a speaker and I am

1) Scared

and

2) Confused, surely not enough time has elapsed between me going to them as a student and then being a person students are listening to.

Anna, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

alang, pokemong musikalg = 9 to 11 of May?!? did you mean THIS wed?

mark s, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Like students ever listen to speakers. They just all want your job (don't flinch til you see the whites of their eyes etc etc). Tell them the Amsterdam hotel story and that should keep them happy. Tell them also that if they are really lucky they could enter the hallowed community wot is ILX.

Er.

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, don't!!

Tom, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(mark: wah, yes i r fule)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey! Like what's going on about the Pokemon Musical? It's the closet we'll get to Japanese Monster Wrestling!

I will probably attend this week! If I feel that I have posted too many silly comments this week.

jel --, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was in the office's of UCL's student union earlier today! Next door to the student mag office! They looked at me suspiciously, because I was twice the age of everyone else there, but I got out alive. I resisted the temptation to attempt to prove that I am groovy and with it. "No, I love the White Strokes."

Martin Skidmore, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"white strokes" = the uber-band, no?

do they have "Pokemon on Ice" over in the UK yet? imagine the pokemon musical, except they're all ice-skating while singing!

geeta, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

Sarah, Wednesday, 10 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I find that prospect quite arousing.

Sarah, Wednesday, 10 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread needed to go back into nu-answers, I suppose.

Tom, Wednesday, 10 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Did you book downstairs Ptee?

Sarah, Wednesday, 10 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am leaving work in about twenty minutes. Hooray for being my own boss.

Pete, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You bastard.

I don't think Pete realised that I was still in bed when he was stomping around the flat at 9:30 this morning singing 'lipstick on my face' or something. Ha ha.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am leaving work in about twenty minutes too. Hooray for my boss not being in.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed I did not. Ulp.

I was actually singing Red Lipstick by Rocket From The Crypt (a song I don't even particularly like) and the Viva Dead Ponies by the Fatima Mansions - the only song that I can think of which namechecks Crouch End in it.

Pete, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Apart of course from Everybody Crouch.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So much for Pete's theory that I always wake him up by slamming the front door. Clearly he has no idea if I am in or out. Anyway the singing was a most unwelcome intrusion into my last moments of hungover sleep.

Emma, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dammit, I have to wait till 5 and then I am OUT OF HERE. I am going to write myself an official letter on work stationary and join the video club tonight heh heh.

Sarah, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Will this actually WORK?)

Sarah, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I now feel human enough to say thanks everyone for coming and also to say that this f-a-p was probably the GRATEST YET. Next month I think we might chance our luck with a beer garden for starters.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't felt ill at all today, how odd, I usually get hangovers of a desperately cruel magnitude

chris, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

God punished you enough with the taxi fare.

Tom, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Once again I bewail not being able to join in. Ah me! I shall see to it that whatever happens in Melbourne and Dunedin makes all of you lot jealous or something.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But Ned, you are at least not stuck at work feeeling like you will have to prop up your eyelids with little cartoon matchsticks. Oh.

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am increasingly glad I didn't go for the Torquemada option. I was a bit wobbly this morning, but amazingly my thinking cells have done okay and I've spent the afternoon coming up with stuff I'm sort of kind of maybe happy with. It was great though Tom - thanks again - and the beer garden option gets the thumbs up from me, as long as there's an alternative in case it ends up being one of the, ooh, 98% of days where you'll die of exposure before the 2nd pint's gone down.

Come on Th' Moldy Peaches!

Mark C, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mmmm, drinking outside, num num, in fact I'm off for a pint now, mmmm lovely booze, how much you nourish me, then tomorrow, back to France for more bouze and food products for ATP shenanigans!! GET IN!

chris, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Now this is true, Anna. But was the happiness worth the pain?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*sleeps*

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, good night out. One day Katie and I will be in a room and not be on opposite sides of it. One day I will not run out of cigarettes before the pub shuts.

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean those two things were the bad bits, but the rest was great.

Anna, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Now Anna, you know you had the option to buy illicit fags off the small Chinese man who was selling ciggies were smuggled into the country in the smalls of 200 peasants from Xianjing squeezed into a 1977 Austin Allegro...

Mark C, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What a splendid evening for sure! Delighted to meet Dr C (WHAT A FINE CHAP!!!!) for the first and hopefully not last time. Will hold you to your promise of bringing Mr Allan Uncut to the next one. Also good to meet Gareth for the first time, as well as Anna F (sorry I didn't speak to you more), and great to see K-reg again (first time since Oxford last June).

Absolutely splitting Sam Smith-induced head this morning but the cold shower of urgent and key hospital relocation work put a quick stop to that.

Certainly the best of the meet-ups I've been to thus far.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I got in at 9am, am now hooked on RHUM and coincidentally apologise to anyone I said stupid stuff and/or proposed to at any point in the evening.

(I forgot Magnus and K-reg and possibly other people were also there)

Graham, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

do the words BREACH OF PROMISE mean anything to you, proposal boy?

jilted but not defeated, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

She doesn't believe in marriage, so I only apologise for embarrassing her by asking. True to my word, my continued interest in the availability of her hand in marriage will be assured for as long as she still owns an Alda record.

show us yer dowry, sinkah, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh you'll be seeing more of me MC. Remember there are many urgent and key questions still to be solved - were there 10 great records released in 1974, for example. And exactly HOW and for HOW LONG would you inflict torture on Stewart Copeland.

Dr. C, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yea that was a good one, no doubt. i didn't get back till 2.50, and i woke up at 10.45, and let me tell you dudes, i was fuckked. no way was i going into work, still first sickday this year, so not too bad. first time i've met toby, jel, drc and marcello, didn't get to speak to either nickie or mark c though, the rest of you drunken fucks i've alredy had to suffer enough y'know?

gareth, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Pete's first post on this thread leaves me shocked, disappointed, disillusioned and betrayed.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 February 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha phoning ahead.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

It was all ironical. Honest.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! this was a good old skool FAP. I still haven't brought the editor of Uc*nt along to one, have I? That would increase the average age a bit.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

This thread reminds me I may just be nothing more than Graham's substitute

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you made any offers of marriage recently, Steve?

Cor, weren't old-skool FAPs small? I especially like all these posts from perennial FAP regulars meeting each other for the first time. This was only a couple of months before my first FAP and it seems like a lifetime away. Was there ever a time when Toby and Gareth didn't know each other?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 19 February 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a magazine called Ucunt?

I can't remember my first FAP per se, unless the Blue POsts crawl was a proto-FAP. I went to one someone near St Pauls with Hopkins once at an upstairs bar. It was when 24 Hour Party People had just been announced with Steve Coogan to play Wilson, which caused Mr Tim no end of amusement.

Whatever happened with Gr*h*m? Is there a thread I can go to that has the details?

Dave B (daveb), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Was there ever a time when Toby and Gareth didn't know each other?

yes! i believe the first time we met was a glasshouse stores fap in early 2002. we talked about pelevin. gareth was disappointed that i'm 5 years younger than him.

we'd swapped a cd of BoC for a tape of random number via the post a few months previously.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:07 (twenty-one years ago)

My last sighting of Gr*h*m was at a FAP in that wretched Pint Pot place, could've been the blizzard FAP. He came in late, sulked for a bit and then started chucking glasses around. Was he ever seen again?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:13 (twenty-one years ago)

You can tell I still had a full time job then. Such extravagence with taxis. I'd also forgotten I went to that NUS thing.

The Pint Pot FAP you mention Dr C, was not one of my all-time favourites, due to the glass chucking behavior.

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Blimey, I went to a FAP!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I introduced you to Mary and Felicity as "James"!

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 19 February 2004 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

he was seen again, at some glasshouse stores fap i think. he hit me, anyway.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 20 February 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

He was last sighted at the Melissa FAP in the Apple Tree that Melissa didn't actually turn up to. When people said hello he replied "I'm only here to see Melissa" and sat in a corner for most of the night. I'm pretty sure that was his last London FAP, although he may still turn up to Oxford ones.

So yeah, just like Stevem ;)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Toby, you're joking right?

if not, did it feel like a kiss?

chris (chris), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Does he live in Ox? He sounds like fun, whatever.

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 20 February 2004 09:47 (twenty-one years ago)

He was sighted at Glastonbury, much to everyone's grebt ph34r. I think that was after the Melissa-no-melissa fap.

Ricardo (RickyT), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah come on Anna, that FAP also included our trek through the winter wonderland.

Hmm, see your point.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:47 (twenty-one years ago)

On the other hand, it did feature Tom and Pete doing the Cheeky Girls.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not helping, am I?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Depends what you mean by "doing" I guess.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Eeeeh gr*h*m. *sigh* He even started speaking a bit more when he'd been to a few FAPs, but then it all went wrong. To be honest, I think it was a bit wrong inside his head all along. 'WHY DON'T YOU ALL JUST LOVE ME?' seemed to be the perennial refrain. 'Because you're no fun' was our answer.

Aaaaargh I had more or less blanked out the memory of the Cheeky Boys performance. The horror, the horror.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Friday, 20 February 2004 10:58 (twenty-one years ago)

'Because you're no fun' was our answer.

...and because you follow us home, ten yards behind us, in the middle of the night?

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 20 February 2004 11:30 (twenty-one years ago)

it was more of a shove admittedly. it didn't hurt though.

yes, the apple tree was indeed the last london sighting, i'd forgotten about that.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 20 February 2004 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)
