"learn to dance"

Uptight is the sound of Mark E Smith spitting out "Lost In Music" and meaning every word, of Patti Smith's 'Piss Factory' and the Slit's 'Grapevine'; of Iggy Pop's 'Passenger' and Kraftwerk's 'Autobahn'; the rush of the Jesus & Mary Chain's 'Some Candy Talking' and David Bowie's 'Heroes'. Uptight is the sound of Ian Curtis' frantic imperative to "Dance Dance Dance Dance Dance to the radio", coupled with Lou Reed's cool assurance that "despite all the amputations... it was alright"; of Spectrum's obsessively relentless 'How You Satisfy Me' and Johnny Thunder's inelegantly wasted 'You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory'. Uptight is the howl of Black Francis, the feedback of Sonic Youth, the fantastic, fucked-up, paranoid pop of Howard Devoto, Brian Wilson and Tricky; the amphetamine-fueled overload of the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Elvis and Dylan.

Uptight is kicking against the pricks of a dull, left-field, post-rock club scene, and an annoyingly twee & ironic alternative club scene. Uptight is neither elitist nor anal. Uptight aims to provide some much missed excitement and movement on the dancefloor.

Sounds good, too bad I live in California.

I'm too busy with my day job to give any more thought to DJing or hosting a club night, but one of the names I wanted to use was "Uptight", believe it or not.

"...Uptight takes place at The Tatty Bogle Club"

Is that what they mean by "bathos", you Classics students?

The moderator is currently considering his position on adverts on ILE.

Josh is currently considering his position on adverts mailed directly to him, since he just got this same website in an email not five minutes ago.

And to think, I thought I was special! He saw my website, and thought I should know about this! Dang.

Note to spammers (regardless of intention) - it's good to not APPEAR like you're just schilling your product / event. Grease the palm a bit, y'know?

I can't see any problem with announcements relating to music culture. However an indication of the city in thread would be better.

My advice to the organizers kick The Strokes off the indicative playlist and replace with Lift to Experience.

Pinefox alert. Comparision to Lloyd Cole.

The band (Baptiste) organizing this club night have had their single reviewed by a fanzine:

Review

Review of Kissing With Your Eyes Open A beautifully fragile thing that reminds me of Lloyd Cole at his best, or maybe even Power, Corruption and Lies-era New Order. Baptiste seem to have managed that all-too-rare of feats of late, the ability to combine delicacy with passion and tension with abandonment. A fantastic little single.

Maybe we should start a "Shameless Self Promotion" thread, where people can advertise *ALL* their upcoming events? Chatter will be banned on the SSP thread, so it stays relevant, but it keeps advertising and SSP in one place?

I don't mind people who are members of the community posting stuff about things they've got upcoming (in fact, I think it's one of the cooler aspects of this board) but when you've got strangers coming in and doing it, that kinda starts to lead to that slippery slope where soon we'll have "XXX HARDCORE UNDERAGE ACTION CLICK HERE NOW!!!" threads.

Oh wait, no sorry, that's just Anthony again. ;-)
