Yes yes yes I saw 24 Hour Party People this evening and I thought it was GRATE (fear my retro ILE action). Anyone else see it yet?

I'm not sure if I'll see this one...Can't stand Coogan.

That's what LC said and she loved it, she said it's the only Coogan thing she's seen that didn't irritate the life out of her.

I want to see it now, a good review from DG is not a regular thing.

Ronan, Saturday, 6 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Its never gonna be released in brasil, even if it does it would only get in my city in video damn it

Chupa-Cabras, Saturday, 6 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

One thing I would say against it is that it's obviously been made with the extra-laden DVD in mind, to the point where that's even admitted in the film!

So knowingly postmodern. OK, irritatingly knowing. Just like Wilson. All hail Anthony H.

I saw some reviews of Coogan's performance which suggested he got a bit Partridge like. Wheelz within wheelz. I always thought that Partridge was the bastard love child of Richard Madeley and Wilson.

CLASSIC quote in Nigel Andrews' review in FT (no, the other one):

...cinematographer Robby Muller offers handheld camerawork and grunge-tinted DV visuals. It can be like looking at wallpaper someone has thrown up over, with graffiti-style overtitles for extra ugliness.

"grunge-tinted DV visuals"?

Jeff W, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

More movies should have Dirty Vicar visuals in them.

Dan Perry, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to see it tonight.

MarkH, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So am I, before Lord of the Rings my last visit to the Cinema was the Sixth Sense I think.......

I feel silly breaking my habit for a ROCK film, but if the only good part is hearing Jon Carters remix of the track after which it's named then so be it. Bloody shameful waste of money that could be spent on something else though.......

Ronan, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose it's not a ROCK film, a music film, I mean I feel bad that just because this film is about music I decided to go and see it when there's probably way better films I have neglected in my boycott.

Ronan, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The titling is *incredibly* unreadable. it's an entertainingly presented re-telling of the story. (It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know and I still enjoyed it). I'm glad they didn't set out to do an accurate historical documentary, and the approach worked for me at least. I thought the Wilson impression was fine, and veered more into Jimmy Saville than Partridge!

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm off to see it tonight after being scuppered on both Saturday and Sunday attempts to see it (TIme Out listings and Odeon Cinema's "no adults want to see films before 4pm policies kyboshed it then"). So if anyone wants to see it in CL tonight let me know.

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Proper adults are in bed shagging / hungover until at least 13:00 at the weekends Pete. I would come but I am too ill and have to watch Eastenders after missing last Tuesday and Friday and the omnibus.

Emma, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ooo ooo oooo, that reminds me, I have the "Pat n Peg" video! yay me. (Hanging around at King of Boots enough to bag a promo video and then pissing off outside to Marquis of thingy pub opposite = classic)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You bitch - you slag!!!

How was King Of The Boots last week? I was going to go but went for a meal instead when I realised exactly how packed it was. (Again).

Pete, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To be honest I found it all a bit silly. It's a tiny bar with a guy playing reckids in one corner, and then it fills up in no time. I was only there for 10 mins before realising my mistake. It would be fun enough if you could just meet up, have a relaxed booze and smirk knowingly at the cheeky boots, but no, people squirming past all the time does not a relaxing night make. Luckily last thu was lovely weather if you recall, so standing outside on the street was fine. and Marquis of GRANBY serves Pride, so marvellous.

It was a bit extra weird for me, cos just up the road at the Fitzroy Tavern was a gathering of DrWho fandom -- I genuinely had forgotten that it was the night they do that! ANyway, it was socially awkward for reasons I won't go into.

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

which further reminds me that I caught N.'s dad on UK Gold this w/e. Hee! The Caliph of Krondor with his Neural Whip (a bit like a walnut whip, but less walnutty and more neurally). A truly rubbish ep of Blakes 7.

What *has* happened to N.?

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 8 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three weeks pass...
dear god this was a crushing ordeal: so careful not to alienate the northside boxset boys that it had no room to breathe at all!! haha i went to see a story about FAC51 with FAC52 as my movie companion (viz not dr vick)

I fidgeted and snored, and so did FAC52.
