I have not liked the Braves since the departure of Bruce Benedict.

They stole the NL West from the Dodgers in 1991. And I still haven't forgiven or forgotten.

Besides, everyone knows that the Yankees are really America's Team.

Braves: Classic until October.

Mad Dog Maddux: My second favourite ballplayer ever, just after Orel Hershiser.

Anybody remember Chief Nok-a-homa??

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 6 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

guess not.

he had an iron teepee in the centerfield bleachers of Fulton County Stadium (before the early-90s move to Turner Field) and I remember in the two home openers I saw there, he's emerge at crucial moments in the game, resplendent in his soggy and tired indian headdress, and bang a big "war drum" to psych up the crowd. even at age 10 or so it was depressing. between him and the tomahawk chop it's a toss-up for Most Offensive Meme in Baseball. either way Atlanta "wins".

how about the 9th inning last night... HAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, Smoltz has been quite flammable so far.

As for the Mets, they can't get out of Chicago fast enough for me. I'll help them pack.

I vaguely remember Chief Nok-a-Homa. Wasn't he one of the slew of Seventies-era mascots (like the San Diego Chicken and the Phillie Phanatic?)

I remember being amused by the Phillie Phanatic as a little kid. Prob. is, the Phillies were good then (this was the era of Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Greg Luzinski, Pete Rose, and Bake "the Most Absurd Afro of all Time" McBride) so I guess he was really more distracting than anything else

three years pass...
I've never really liked the Braves, what with their stupid mascot, John Rocker, and that pitching coach who rocks back and forth on the bench like a nervous retard. But I've slowly, slowly warmed up to them as of late.

Besides, it looks like my beloved Cardinals will become the Braves of this decade.

Traumatic Clevelander Memories: Braves 1, Indians 0, Game 6, 1995. Fuck an Atlanta Braves.
