he ate his own face

vantasma, Saturday, 6 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have spent half an hour trying this. It is impossible.

Conclusion = Vantasma is Phil Cool.

four years pass...
I recall when I was in middle school and was buying some sweeties from the newsagents. There was a copy of the Sun on display with a picture of Phill Cool and the headline "agony everytime I pull a face". So I thought that it was a strange profession to have chosen then.

I don't remember him being very funny though. But i do remember the sweets. Cola cubes.

I hope he's dead.

And he's playing Newark tomorrow!

Edward Trifle (Ned Trifle IV), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:02 (nineteen years ago)

heavens! this was one unfunny man.

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:23 (nineteen years ago)

". . . his impersonation of a creature from outer space was nightmare material and would have had Spielberg's make-up artists working for hours to achieve the same gruesome impact"

Ste (Fuzzy), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:28 (nineteen years ago)

He links to Jethro and Pam ayres, nuff saud really.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:30 (nineteen years ago)

I hope he's dead.

Strange how an average '80s comedian can excite the same hatred as Saddam Hussein or Myra Hindley. Did he kill your son or something?

Anyway, if Ted Chippington can make a comeback, there's no reason why Cool can't.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 09:31 (nineteen years ago)

The guy's a fucking genius. Look what he can do ffs

I only know this in a professional capacity.. but he is currently touring the UK. So there.

Pandas At War (pandas at war), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

I'm furious that you people are disrespecting him by not prefixing his name with his official title, 'rubber-faced funnyman'

Hell Hath No Furry (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

The "Rubber Faced Funnyman" title was sold by Cool at an auction in the mid 90s and purchased by Lee Evans.

So, yeah, what did happen to Lee Evans then?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:38 (nineteen years ago)

He is a famous Hollywood actor now.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:39 (nineteen years ago)

In 1997.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:40 (nineteen years ago)

Phil Cool's Paul Daniels sketch remains one of the greatest things of all time.

Copy (2) {AWOL} v ECC 28/05/06 (Lynskey), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 10:41 (nineteen years ago)

oh yes I remember! it ends with God destroying Daniels in a puff of smoke and saying "Now that's what I call magic!"

His Neil Kinnock was great too.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

come to that, what was his name?

New Mark H (New MarkH), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:36 (nineteen years ago)

Roy Jay?

onimo (onimo), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:37 (nineteen years ago)

yes! well done Onimo! He and Phil Cool are inextricably linked in my mind.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - Marcello otm - I always found Cool slightly irritating at most - wtf with the deathwish?

Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

I cannot believe that of all the people in the world I've been told off for overreacting by Marcello.

It's Tough to Beat Illious (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:16 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I think there's a world of difference between reacting w. vigour to something or someone that irritates you and wishing someone dead who has done nothing to harm you, never can and never will.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

You're right Mark. Like everybody else in the world, everything I write and say is completely literal.

It's Tough to Beat Illious (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

when you say things there are a million and one ways to indicate that you are not being completely literal. On a message borard, however....

(which is incidentally the cause of so many flare-ups on the boards. Not just this one. Every one).

even other media have the opportunity for contextualisation that a msg board lacks. Books, movies, plays, blogs - all can do this.

New Mark H (New MarkH), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

Are you Gzeus in disguise?

It's Tough to Beat Illious (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

I thought "I hope he's dead" was an amusing commentary on internet messageboard bile.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

spook!

...but back to Phil Cool, he did a thing about the noises you only hear in hammer horror movies on bbc that i almost shit myself over in about 1987.

now what happened to The Houghton Weavers?

pisces (piscesx), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

You'll probably find them in a pub in Lathom
