anthony I'd appreciate guidance on where to begin with Nina Simone (or anyone's guidance for that matter)

Ron - go for "Sinnerman" - one of the most astonishing, life- affirming songs ever. Really.

Superstar by Superdtar is pretty great (and the only song here I know) if it's what I think it is.

I've only heard 8, 10 and 11 (respectively: great; good; probably good but can't remember it too well - lots better stuff on same LP anyway) and a different version of "Jackson".

*Suspicion*: no spelling mistakes, ant, even Norwegain (sic)! ;-)

Is it allowed to have the same person on two? I think June is on the Carter Family one. I only love the Dylan and Bowie, and maybe Nina Simone. I keep thinking about this sort of listing, but I don't really understand it. It's tracks that we think are perfect, unimprovable, not necessarily simply our favourites? Sorry if I'm being dumb, but I'm pretty new here.

seven months pass...
jacques brel's 'ne mes quite pas' is indeed a perfect song; the numerous covers attest to its quality. and, with all this about nina simone, one must investigate her version; it's splendid. some english versions (‘if you go away’) are also wonderful. for example, i recently heard emiliana torrini's cover in the film pumpkin (4 stars - think donny darko and ghost world) et c’est trés bien.
