Calais: train station platform noise

the local train out of calais, when waiting on the platform, there is a bing-bong-booong noise, it is incredibly evocative, and one of the most beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard (it is a bit like boards of canada, but only 6-8 seconds long, and is just everything they are trying to achieve)

it is partly because it has that 70s testcard melody, and partly because it is blasted out of a cheap tannoy that degrades slightly and distorts the top and bottom.

have you ever heard it? is there anything similar?

The Tannoy chimes at Paris Airports,(both of them), are these exceptionally dissonant Musique Concrete style notes. Just a short blast but encapsulating the siit of early electronic music quite sucintly (sp??)

ten months pass...
but where can i get such sounds without crossing the channel again?

Announcements are so rarely chimed in the UK, except by the words 'we would like to apologise....'.

four years pass...

maybe its better that way

o wow I remember being quite taken aback by that French chime, last time it was over there - in Paris not Calais so it must be an SNCF thing. I think I thought it was quite sweet but trying a bit too hard. Can't remember how it went though :( I don't go to France enough ;_;

"You surely had to see the news advertizing of the SNCF with small pink small beasts representing of the ideas?!"

http://naturalsoundsystem.free.fr/checklist/index.php?d=042005&page=2 that claims that the above jingle was designed in 2005 so I'm not sure it's the same one that Gareth heard.
mp3 of old version
mp3 of 2005 version
radio article in french that apparently goes into some detail in the subject but my french is virtually nonexistent so I will have to abandon the trail at this point. French speakers to thread!
