Perfect endings

Sort of based on the Perfect Books thread...

Movies, books, comics, whatever. Fiction in any form. Where have you got to the end of some related story and the ending just wraps up with perfect timing and a satisfatory feeling. You read the last sentence, close the book and sigh/breathe out feeling a little smug.

Just seen some rubbish films recently that end appallingly/clumsily. I could mention Lisa Jewell books, but I know I'm already marked for mentalism on that score. And NO Se7en is not in this category, the end to that film is just cobblers.

"... and it was still hot"

"....And then I woke up."

It may be a bit annoying but from a seven year old storywriting point of view there is no more perfect ending.

The end to _Anachrophobia_ by Jonathon Morris is pretty godlike, particularly for media tie-in fiction.

the way we were = perfectly sad and infuriating and tear inducing.

I've sat and thought hard about this, and all I can come up with is Charlotte's Web.

This thread has a perfect ending.

"And she stroked his hand again"

"...and so ended another perfect day".

In comics: Jim Woodring's "Frank in the River." The last issue of pre- reboot _Legion of Super-Heroes_, and I'm totally serious about this. Grant Morrison's real last issue of _Doom Patrol_, not the "Danny the World" one.

I liked Danny The World! And I loved the end of Ghost World the comic. Best ending ever is Some Like It Hot's "Nobody's perfect!" which even features the word perfect, proving me right! QED!

My favorite thing about that ending, Martin, is that it's such an unexpected bonus. The real love story is between Marilyn and Tony Curtis and we've already gotten such a fantastic ending to that story, just a moment earlier... they're driving off in the speedboat, she's realized that TC is neither a woman nor a rich milquetoast sea captain - and he's devastated that his gig is up and spluttering that he's a no-good liar and not worth her attention - she stops him short and says "oh you can't talk me out of it! I love you!" and covers him in kisses. Ha! Perfect! ...and then cut to the FRONT of the boat...

Easy. Harrison Ford slamming the elevator door closed.

A lot of great books have bad endings - Huck Finn is a classic example, though there's nothing wrong with the very end, where he talks about lighting out for the territory. Gatsby has an absolutely beautiful ending.

I have way too many favorite movie endings, but the final shot of The Searchers has to be mentioned.

The ending of The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery makes me feel happy and fuzzy. The ending of The Once and Future King is lovely.
