Are there any other websites, similar to the All Music Guide, or Internet Movie Database, for literature, painting/art, comic books, etc..?

yes, a lot of art ones (also architecture) but they are all on my old computer and my work computer: also there's THIS, which i use a lot for fact-checking (on the whole — unlike movies or music — lit seems to be gathered by genres in separate places: eg the ppl who do the GOTHIC site will not help you on Westerns...

Check out www.metacritic.com, it's sort of like the dogpile search engine, but for movies, music, video games, a few other mediums. They give you links to about 20 different review sources for an album (eg. in the music category: Spin, AllMusic, Pitchfork), and then calculate a composite score based on all of the ratings it has received. It's no exact science, but it's a neat site.

www.comics.org has a pretty good database of comics info, but it's not in the imdb class. http://artcyclopedia.com/ is a decent starting place for art. I've not found a literary equivalent of imdb, but http://www.andromeda.rutgers.edu/~jlynch/Lit/ is a good directory of literary resources.

This one has a lot of architectural photographs (no commentary, tho).

There used to be a feature on IMDB where you could read all about the different DVD editions of a film - I can't for the life of me find this on the site anymore - anyone?

I really hate the IMDB redesign. (Almost always my first reaction to any site redesign.)

so I see this one user, StephenPaulC, seemingly think some not-very-funny movie is "LOL The funniest 1 hour xx minutes ever!" with a lot of !!!!! at the end. Which makes me wonder, what else does he like?

Well... all of his reviews are like that.
