Most of the shops on Oxford St are shut from 10:30-13:00. I usually go for lunch at 12:30 so am not happy at all.

I doubt it Jel. A blurbled announcement came through on our TANNOYS earlier. "Whot did that sa" I arsked co-worker Damieng. "Gotta be quiet for the Queen Mutter" he reply. "Oh", say I. "But I haf not spoken all morning due to my ANGER at being given a court summongs".

Those are the breaks, kid. You should bring your own lunch anyway. I am going to Victoria for lunch I hope a PUB is open as I need a stiff GIN.

by mistake (eg i totally forgot) i was playing ascension's "as above so below" very loud during the two-minute silence two years ago => "the unpleasantness at the bellona club" is (partly) about the hypocrisy of the two-minute silence, which actual shell-shocked vets of the trenches were very extremely cynical about

There was a silly news report about this on NPR this morning, the reporter wanted to know if London had shut down because people were in such mourning for the Queen Mother.

No one here bothered. I'm with Sarah on it not being a bank holiday because working two 4 day weeks recently has been mighty annoying. Especially because I input people's timesheets and notice another temp blagged loads of overtime to make up for it. and the only way for me to do that is not do anything all day, which I think they might notice somehow. argh.
