Who is painting our buses gold?

I'm assuming its a Golden Jubilee thing - along with them moving/replacing the pavement inserts for the jubilee walkway - but who is paying for it. Especially the gold bus with the big Celebrations ad on it....

Its a slow change but are they going to repaint all the buses?

They'll prolly do 50, coz they did 25 for the Silver Jubilee. And they gave them red carpet. It's not the first time they painted buses gold - they did it for the 50th anniversary of London Transport in 1983 too.

During the silver jubilee they painted 20 buses silver so I presume they'll be doing fifty for this one.

I was on one the other day that smelt like someone had given the interior a golden shower an' all.

God Pete you are so behind the times. I overheard a lady on a number 8 telling her mate about this AGES ago, she was very excited and kept saying 'yes, the bus was GOLD, not yellow but definitely GOLD' and have seen several on Oxford St of late. Natch tis a Jubilee thing. Duh.

I'm just a bit annoyed as one is on our route (the 91) which throws me all out of whack when I'm doing my usually very impressive "spotting bus markings from a distance" thing.

Anyway - is Queenie paying? (And for those who may be acquainted with such things, who is The Queen's College patron now then?)

Pete, in the scale of Impressive Things, spotting a 91 bus at a great distance is pretty low down.

i think i just saw a gold no. 10. the gold buses always remind me of gold daleks for no good reason.

Gold no. 337 stops outside my house! Though you can barely tell it's gold - it's covered with an ad for Felix cat food with Felix wearing a union jack boater at a "jaunty" angle...

Most of the gold buses are in the East End aren't they? I've seen loads. It's a EastEnder <=> Queen Mum love-in thing, coz of the Blitz

mark s, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

someones been painting the dunedin buses sky blue. i liked the orange ones much better.

what about shrink-wrapping the buses in giant plastic advertisements? that's worse, no? and adidas has a new marketing ploy: they're covering parts of the GROUND in T stations with blue! the floor is the last uncharted territory of the ad! just think how much you look at the ground each day -- you could be gaining valuable knowledge about products! wtf?

"queen mum love-in" = "i am now blind"

geeta, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta, Liverpool St station's floor was always COVERED with ads, the reason being that if you came down the escalators you'd see them then. i've seen a couple of gold no.94 buses in the west side as well.
