Is Shaun Ryder soon to be dead?

I was watching the Channel 4 documentary about Factory on Sunday night and was shocked by his appearrance. His right arm was also shaking violently. I thought he was masturbating at first (well, it is Shaun Ryder) but it later transpired it was some nervous affliction, no doubt brought on by the sustained war against his brain cortex that he's been conducting for years.

It was a bit like seeing ex Chancellor Nigel Lawson after he'd lost weight, only in reverse. In his case, he wasn't ill, but I suspect Ryder's not long for this world.

Anyway judge for yerself:

He also looks a bit like Anakin Skywalker post-demasking in ROTJ, as one of my colleagues pointed out.

Well, it would hardly be a surprise really. I hope he's not down as an organ donor, imagine ending up with his liver.

God yes, I was shocked. He looked about 30 years older and talked with a horrible croak. His eyes were permanently half-closed, and at one point he had to grab his right arm with his left to stop it shaking so much. We'll see how long he lasts.

it seems to be a Manc tradition, this dying young business....Curtis, Hannett, Gretton.....Definitely "leave a not particularly good looking corpse" in the last two cases.

he looked bloody awful didn't he, plus he's probably gutted about being kicked out of Australia for overstaying his visa.

[Dr.C was the original singer in the Happy Mondays but Royal Family & The Poor commitments saved him from a life of ruin]

one year passes...
What happened then? Where did you find out that he was dead?

Kalle, Friday, 11 July 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Gretton? That's pretty well known. As for Ryder, having seen the interview clip on the 24 Hour Party People DVD...argh.

The Royal Family and the Poor are everywhere in my life this week, it seems. At least thanks to those reissues.

Ryder looked better in the photos in Ucunt this month. But not much.

Don't buy the RFATP reissues, Ned - even *you* can live without them.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

In the Guardian (I think) he said he was feeling much better (response from interviewer: 'he doesn't look it').
