ethical question

I purchased a piece of software a while back from Corel and was scheduled to receive a $30 rebate. Well, in my mailbox today were 20 rebate checks each for $30. I am extremely tempted to keep them. I know this is WRONG and I may earn bad karma. Can't I just say "fuck it, it's a big corporation"?? Does anyone think I'll raise a big red flag by cashing them all?? Does cashing them legally constitute theft or some other crime??

Opinions welcome

same cheque number = red flag raised most definitely. don't do it, they'll make you pay back interest too etc etc

We need more unethical questions. Sure, some have been theoretically immoral...

Ned, just read the way CNN.com phrases its polls on the Israelis & Palestinians ..

I advise you to send them back.

partly this is because you will feel incredibly smug and self- satisfied with what a good person you are for so doing.

partly this is because you will avoid a world of hassle when they realise their mistake and come looking for their money back.

Dare: zing. But that just scrapes the surface.

send them back, but scope em out if they will send you more for your honesty.

Frankly, I'd have no moral problems ripping off any big corporation. Fuck them. On the other hand, if you bank them and spend the profits, they'll likely then come and demand their money back. You will be legally obliged to refund it, and it might not be easy. To summarise: morally, take the money, but there are practical risks.

Err -- I don't see how he even can defraud the company, given that the check numbers are all identical: the worst he could do is run them all through an ATM and then immediately withdraw the money, which only defrauds the bank (and which you could do anyway without having the extra checks in the first place). The check number can only pay once -- beyond that it's already paid.

im gonna send them back, thanks for all the input y'all

Ron, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Make sure pay one of them in (and let it clear) before you send them off, because they'll probably cancel the chequenumber.

Graham, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yes I'll deposit one tonight or tommorrow and will wait a few days, thanks Graham

"Was the Palestinian condemnation of attacks on civilians strong enough to merit a meeting between Colin Powell and Yasser Arafat?"

- Yes/No -
