What does your favorite Looney Tunes character say about you?

Last night, our local PBS station ran a special on animator Chuck Jones. Got me thinking-- what is your favorite Looney Tunes character? What do you believe it says about you?

Nichole Graham, Thursday, 11 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Brooklyn dog of Foghorn Leghorn fame...(Would Katie Kaboom count?)

Joe, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pete Puma.

Daffy Duck...egotist and total loser! Pah! That's not me!

jel --, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it's mainly because of Chuck Jones, but it's Wile E. Coyote. He's sort of brilliant, sort of stupid, an utter failure - it doesn't sound so far away...

Martin Skidmore, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's also a super-gennnnius!

Joe, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyone remember Slowpoke Rodriguez, Speedy's slower cousin? Didn't he have the ability to hypnotize cats or something?

Joe, Friday, 12 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Something;> Though I think the cats were so busy laughing that they couldn't be bothered to chase him....

Nichole Graham, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
Martin, which Wile E. Coyote are you? The desperate, craven hungry Wile E or the deluded, vain, stupid Wile E?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Friday, 21 November 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

On a good day I am deluded and vain, but today I am most emphatically very desperate and craven, though not terribly hungry right this moment.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 21 November 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite liked Daffy when he was a complete psychopath (circa the "whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo" jumping around the room freakout years) and making Porky and Elmer's life hell, but later on he just became a straight man/whipping boy to Buggs' shenanigans.

Foghorn Leghorn is probably my favorite, just `cos -- like Buggs -- he's a snide bastard who'll completey fuck your shit up (if you're an irritating, plan-foiling dog or pesky chickenhawk), only he dresses it in great Southern colloquialisms.

chuck jones quote, paraphrased: "bugs bunny is what we all want to be, but daffy duck is what we ARE."

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

favorite: the daffy of the mid-50s, the tormented anti-hero of "duck dodgers," "dripalong daffy" and "the scarlet pumpernickel."

least favorite: the daffy of those awful awful early 60s cartoons where they paired him (for no apparent reason) with speedy gonzales and made him into a humourless asshole.

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Elmer Fudd. I shudder to think what that says about me.

once classic, now severely overrated: the tasmanian devil

underrated: foghorn leghorn

utterly without redeeming facet: bosko. anyone else remember being subjected to one of these atrocities every night on nickelodeon as a kid?

So true. Once "Taz" shirts started appearing, it all went horribly, horribly south.

I like bugs when his head was rounded like an actual rabbits

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I also like daffy when he is sans bill

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone remember Hassan? As in..."HASSAN CHOP!" Yeah, he was a good one.

"AHA! PRONOUN TROUBLE!"

hahaha!

My name is Elmer J. Fudd, millionaire....I own a mansion and a yacht!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

god I think I need to get those looney tunes dvds for xmas

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 22 November 2003 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

a lot of the early warners cartoons are pretty twisted, where they were desperately trying to copy the disney style but wound up turning them into unconscious (?) parodies. there's one i vividly remember that was obviously meant as a sappy anti-smoking parable, where porky pig is this kid on his way to church who decides to stop and smoke because of peer pressure. he takes one puff and instantly has all these frightening hallucinations. it's better than "reefer madness"!

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 22 November 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I still love the one where Fudd digs up Buggs' hole (boy, that sounds bad out of context) and take him back to his penthouse. Buggs wakes up, walks into Fudd's lavish indoor pool and starts to bathe. When he's suddenly struck by the surroundings, he chalks it up to being a "mira-gee" and continues to bathe. He then starts singing about Nero burning Rome. To this day, the mere mention of...

"LA, LA..YEARN..."

...from when Buggs' is trying to sing in key courtesy of Fudd's piano can reduce a friend of mine and I to inexplicable hysterics.

four years pass...

Now, I am second to none in my admiration for Bugs Bunny. He is everything you want in a role-model for your child: arch, cowardly, gender-bending, and lascivious.

Witch Hazel is the best -- coy, coquettish, with those great double takes directed at the viewer ("Mother. AHAHAHAHAHAHA!").

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 October 2011 01:35 (fourteen years ago)

Witch Hazel was cool, and Bugs underwent a personality change when he was around her. He'd become genuinely cute going into haunted houses in those end of days Chuck Jones cartoons.

I like the pre-Rabbit Season/Duck Season Daffys.

bamcquern, Saturday, 22 October 2011 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

Oh, and it says I'm a cartoon snob.

bamcquern, Saturday, 22 October 2011 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

eight years pass...

I had no memory of Satan's Waitin', where Sylvester keeps dying in his pursuit of Tweety and goes to Hell... nine times. Needless to say it's great.

Foghorn Leghorn rarely talks about me, but he's always positive when he does.

Michigan J. Frog is the right answer, although I don't know what he says about me.
