Can you shoot people and nick their cars in Sensible World Of Soccer? No. Can you do that in Grand Theft Auto 3? Yes.

Therefore: GTA3 is the best game ever.

PRO EVOLUTION

Sensible soccer was fantastic on the Amiga. So much better than the Awful Kick Off series.

PRO EVOLUTION

GOD YES. so realistic. This game is the most underappreciated gem of all time.

Ronan, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sensible Soccer on the Amiga was goidlike, but quite tricky to master. Sensible Soccer on the Super Nintendo, however, was the perfect party game, as it was really easy to pick up, and the different strength of teams meant that you could always have a handicapping system to prevent your ex-girlfriend winning every single sodding game (do I sound bitter?).

sensible world of soccer tricky to master?????????

if a pathetic dick like me can get east stirling to the champions league final then it must be pretty bloody easy. although i never could beat juventus.

ps it IS the best game ever....

ambrose, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"so realistic"

i believe this to be a bad thing for a game to be, not a plus point.

and didnt david howie use to play for spurs?????

ambrose, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Pro Evolution underappreciated? Veritable jizz-fest of slavering praise more like. Although, I love the ISS series it does get unfairly hyped relative to the footnote that the Sensible series seems to have been handed (unfairly).

Graphics v Gameplay FITE

Gazza's Super Soccer.

In the modern stand off between FIFA and ISS, there can be only one. FIFA is maketing trash (EA - the New US Gold) that is all fancy motion captures and tricksy moves.

ISS Pro Evolution on PS2 is just superb. The graphics are magnificent, the tempo is just right. I've watched it and thought how realistic it looked. Playing is the same - hard to score, plenty of 1- 0 games. Just like the real thing but petite.

I even like the rubbish commentary - it's reassuringly naff, even if it does feature a Hun. The original ISS Pro had such phrases as 'It's off his boot!' and 'It's a yellow card - that's a early bath'; these have been excised from later versions thankfully.

please can somebody help me find a copy of swos. I am an Irish guy who moved to Wales and left my copy of swos at home and am going crazy without it. It is the best game in the known universe. I was first introduced to it back in 1992/3 and was hooked since then. So come on then what are you waiting for help me!!!!!!!!!

four years pass...
It's coming to XBox 360 this Summer, plus Vista and XP after that. Can't wait.

blueski, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

Hopefully it'll be better than the xbox version from last year.

treefell, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Pro Evo really needs custom teams.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Hopefully it'll be better than the xbox version from last year.

it will be because it's a practically identical port of the '96 Amiga version but with obv. better graphics plus play online options.

blueski, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

That is amongst the best news I've ever heard.

treefell, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Lowood and the four members of his committee — the game designers Warren Spector and Steve Meretzky; Matteo Bittanti, an academic researcher; and Christopher Grant, a game journalist — announced their list of the 10 most important video games of all time: Spacewar! (1962), Star Raiders (1979), Zork (1980), Tetris (1985), SimCity (1989), Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990), Civilization I/II (1991), Doom (1993), Warcraft series (beginning 1994) and Sensible World of Soccer (1994)

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

yes i wasn't impressed with the xbox one, for a start i could hardly distinguish between the two teams most of the time.

Ste, Thursday, 15 March 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

...no matter which teams I chose, btw.

Ste, Thursday, 15 March 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Pro Evo really needs custom teams.

There are custom teams on PES. At least, there are made-up teams you can customise. How else did I manage to take the magnificent Coventry City all the way to the Konami Cup glory (ooh, if only Dele Adebola could run in real life)? Though there aren't made-up teams with comedy themes like types of Fruit, if that's what you're after.

Sensi on the PlayStation was the worst game ever (ever!). So disappointing. Except maybe for Gazza's Super Soccer, which I can't believe anyone else remembered. Months I looked forward to getting that game, months. I kept an advert with screenshots by my bed. All that anticipation made it even more painfully awful when Santa finally delivered. Thanks for nothing, fatty.
