Use BBEdit lite. apparently most others have way too much cluuter. don't ask me what that means but my friend says that if you (or i or mike or hell GOD) uses any other (like frontpage) you can tell cause its... cluttered. Oh yeah and if you know how i can use my DSL connection with OS X, let me know. anyway BBEdit lite is easy.

If yourm DSL connection works over ethernet then its simple, choose network settings from the apple menu. Select ethernet from the upper of the two pull down menus and DHCP from the lower, (or from whichhever menus gives you these options, I'm 5000 miles away from my computer so can't check just now). you may need to register the MAC address (NB this is an acronym, nothing to do with apple) which is the string of hexidecimal numbers at the bottom left of the window it should be something like AF.2D.56.E3.01.C9. Just call up your ISP's tech support to do this.

If your DSL box is USB then you have to try and download a driver for which there may be none at present.

ok i'll stop recommending unix text editors now. maryann - use anything but ms frontpage, it's got serious issues, & any other heavy beast of a program that will fuXor up the html so much that when you go back into the source code to fix it later you can't.

notepad is cool, but mr radiohead i thought you used simpletext!

i think you're right about using notepad. even though i only know basic html, the text editor i downloaded was just a pain. i mainly wanted something that would tell me things i forget like the codes for colours, but there's so much stuff i don't want it would be better just to print them out or get a book or something. i can't help but maintain the utopian dream of not having to have a book and a pen and paper beside my computer as a necessary adjunct to it.

colour codes - hex for HTML and RGB values for paint/pshop. sorted.

"My group's task is to make computers less stupid. Notice I didn't say 'smart,' because I'm not sure computers will ever be smart. But actually computers are incredibly stupid right now. They're really painful to use. One of the things I like least about my job at Microsoft is actually using the computer. I know that's somewhat ironic."
