Miami Beach-born director Brett Ratner has apologized for telling an audience at a film screening, "Rehearsing is for fags."

"It was a dumb way of expressing myself," Ratner, 42, said in a statement, according to Associated Press. "Everyone who knows me knows that I don't have a prejudiced bone in my body. But as a storyteller I should have been much more thoughtful about the power of language and my choice of words."

Ratner is a self professed "germaphobe" who makes his chicks take STD tests before he does the business. Lindsay Lohan was one of many.

Ratner spilled his mating ritual secrets on Monday morning's Howard Stern Show, including the fact that he made the troubled actress go to his doctor and get checked for STDs before the two had sex.
