Is there a greater joy...

...than well-done BBQ seasoned steak fajita strips in your backyard, as you sit in a comfy chair, listening to the blasting techno mix DJs are making inside the house, sipping just-made margaritas on a beautiful Southern California afternoon?

Says I, taking a brief break from the party to post this. Perhaps not the utter ultimate joy, but it ranks up there.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Word.

I went city biking this morning......with headphones blasting and no helmet, of course......i love danger.....came back and cleaned up my entire pad......a very spiritualizing experience.....getting dolled up to do what you're doing, but at some other kid's house and he isn't too generous with the food.......might pick up some nammer noodles on the way.......anyways, yes, respect to chilling......you're a good man Ned.

Ramosi, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yo, but for real, one thing people like us are truly deprived of are BBQ's where all the music involves Roger Troutman and someone gets shot.......some days all I do is dream about Compton

Ramosi, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This is just as good: snowstorm outside, Joni Mitchell on the stereo and an expensive beer in your hand, the lights dimmed, you and your man snuggling on the couch with a roaring fire in the fireplace. It's, you know...cozy.

Michael Daddino, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you're a good man Ned.

Hey, thanks Ramosi. And if I haven't said it, glad you're here, we need more characters like you in the world.

I like your depiction of things too, Mike. A lovely polar opposite weather-wise!

Taking another break from the party -- the advantage of living at the place where it's happening! Currently sipping an adios motherfucker -- the curacao helps the color -- and am feeling good because I just asked someone out for a date (she had to leave the party early) and she said yes. It's a good day, yes it is.

Its spring and i go to the old home town, we go to the trade show for mini donut s and to harass conseratives, have a Civil drink with your dad, come to the old homestead and yr lover is chattering away with your mother .

Is there a greater joy than being able to sit on your front porch all day painting flower pots and watching attractive shirtless young males playing baseball in their front yard?

Nope, there isn't.

Lindsey B, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

way to go ned! i'd have a drink in yer honour, but i'm still only halfway thru this essay.

di, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, thanks. :-) A metaphorical drink is fine too.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh screw it, i think i might go have a beer anyway.

di, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

aint no party like a Ned's house party cuz a Ned's house party don't stop!!!! :-)

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yer GODDAMN right! ;-) They just finished a semi-old school industrial set and now the bass lines are shaking the walls. You can hear the beats across the street and down to the end of the block -- I know, I've tested this. Now there are about twenty people plus dancing in the front room and people are beating on drums in time to the breakbeats in the back patio.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

dancing *sighs* i wish i was there.

Ned, that made me think of a completely random story so now I want to tell it. Years ago, my mother's aunt called and as my mom wasn't home, I ended up talking to her (read: listening to her) for a while. She was relating her experience of the next door neighbor having a party the prev. night: "And all night it was that music with the BOOM BOOM BOOM, I don't know what do you call it? I beleive they call it BASS. All night with the BASS."

I don't know how well I'm capturing the moment but it was one of the funniest things i'd ever heard an older person say...

Speaking of which, today I went to see Amelie matinee w some friends and as the previews were underway, a group of older ladies entered, including an 80-something LOL about 4 feet tall. So the previews continued and one of the last was for some Andie McDowell film w/ two other women (don't remember title) but all about middle aged female experiences w/ dating, men, etc. Looked very sex-oriented in that 'mature woman' kind of way. Anyhow, as the trailer ended, the brief moment of silence between clips was just long enough to frame the little old womans' comment "I want to see THAT one!!!" which gave rise to much chuckling in the theater. A very precious moment, what a cute lady!!

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, the fuzz just showed up at Ned's party... the music now has to be kept down. Fookin' pigs! (I'm very serious... I'm at the party in question right now)

Brian MacDonald, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i wish i was there

Aw. :-) You'd love it! And yes, Brian sez true -- the PIGS were here. But the volume was only turned down, not shut down completely, and the PARTY CONTINUES! The fire pit is full of logs and flames, the drinks are flowing and all is well. :-)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys are ilx addicts for sure, you can't even stop when youre at a party :-)

Ron, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

wow, the fuzz, you guys are SUCH party animals. i've never had the police turn up at parties... noise police at band practise, but never at parties.

di, Saturday, 13 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The party IS ILX and vice versa.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Scary. Not even the police slowed my lads down, eh? Typical;> I think a new plateau has been reached, as the OC cops were actually able to rouse themselves.

Any arrests?

Nichole Graham, Sunday, 14 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Not unless I wasn't told about 'em.
