Ever been propositioned at work? Ever been the one propositioning? Tell.

uh-oh, who do you fancy, Damian?

"do you have that new Cafe Del Wank chillout album? oh, and nice ass."

I asked a waitress out last week. She said 'I like your eyepatch'. As I was paying, I said 'Do you have an e mail address?' She e mailed me saying 'I'm glad you asked for my address'. We went for dinner exactly a week later. She was sweet and very pretty, and spoke English with an Irish accent (odd for a red haired Japanese girl). Afterwards we sat on a bench down by the river. I don't know if I'll see her again.

My flatmate told me I should date more 'ordinary people', because it gets me out of my artist ghetto, where everybody who knows me has a relationship with my work.

i have been asked out at work. a few months ago some guy came in and pestered me while i was doing the typing, persistently asking me and asking me and asking me despite my rejections. he ended by saying "its a shame, because you look like you would make a good housewife." ????!!!! then last weekend one of my co-workers came into the office specifically to ask me out. natch, i told him no. i've never asked anyone out while they were at work.

Oh, I can't tell you that, Petra - you know my hangouts. Compliments from scary Newmarket women? Haven't happened yet :). At my last job, an old man hit on me cryptically, saying things like "I've got you by the balls, haven't I? You're the scholar and I'm the novice." Might work on some people, but he wasn't even good-looking enough for me to be flattered.

A lot of the fun of this depends on where you work. When I worked at record stores, video shops, book stores and most fun of all tattoo parlors, I asked people out all the time--it's easy to start conversations and people hit on you all the time. . . hitting on co- workers (who are the ONLY people you see at jobs like the one I have now) is no where near as fun as hitting on customers since you will HAVE to see them every single day afterwards.

momus, your date sounds uber romantic. I so miss that fluttery unsure first date thing, I even miss the delicious BUT DO THEY FANCY ME anxiety pre-asking someone out. I've been with a lovely headstrong woman for ages now, and she asked me out by basically telling me that I was going to be her next boyfriend and who was I to argue. She's ace but, I don't know, a red haired irish accented japanes girl by a river on a lovely day sounds just....

mmmm...

I had two work colleagues of the same name after me at the same time once. I ended up with one for 23 years.

There's always the 'anything else, sir' followed by 'your phone number'. I get that from old men quite a bit.

alix, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

at the restaurant i worked at, some asshole left me his phone number and a terrible tip.

Really, we all must.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

That's so passe. Gold teeth and eyeliner are where it's at.

Larcole (Nicole), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

In your eye?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

In your case, yes.

Larcole (Nicole), Saturday, 19 July 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never been propositioned at work. I consider it rude, as well.

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 19 July 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Rude not to be propositioned?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 19 July 2003 17:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly, I go into brewpubs and sit there wondering if all these bitches were raised in barnyards or something, like ask me out already for fuck's sake, I've been sitting here with this lager for twenty five minutes

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 19 July 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I know - I preferred it when women were women.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 19 July 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Entire restaurant industry to thread STAT.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 19 July 2003 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I worked with a chef who went through the entire waitressing staff, one after the other. He was as thick and he was narcissistic, but he had blond curly hair.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Sunday, 20 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)
