Have you ever been an extra in a movie?

My mum, dad and little brother are in that Ally McCoist movie with Robert Duval. They are smack bang behing the goals, at which the final penalty shootout is played. I've not seen it but apparently they're visible.

yes. there was some tv movie thing set in bradford. i think it was called swine and roses are something. the thing was, a bunch of us got told about this film being shot in bradford, so we went down to the place, but i was a bit late. so i got there and all the others weren't there. what had happened was, there were TWO films being made in bradford on the SAME day! i had to sit in a pub and drink the dregs of alcohol free lager all day, while everyone else got to be in that football hooligan film and pretend to be be football hooligans (what was it called? something about Shadwell Army? it was filmed at Valley Parade anyway)

gareth, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ID, that was it. they got to be in ID, while i was in some other shit

gareth, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Only on TV. Grange Hill and Eastenders have both starred by green jacket when I was 12 walking past cars and running up and down a street in a pretending to play like I would never actually play way.

I very, very nearly played an background Ewok in Return Of The Jedi but I was too short.

I ask coz there's a lot of films being made in oxford at the moment. Oxford always attracts a lot of film crews but at the moment its ridiculous. They've been filming the new Harry Potter at Worcester & Christ Church Colleges, and I've just been sent this.....

The film company making 'Fairfax and Cromwell' at the Bodleian requires five extras to play the parts of Puritans tomorrow, Tuesday 16th April. You must be:
- male
- 'not too stout' (there are limited numbers of costumes!)
- available from 6 am to 7 pm tomorrow
- available briefly this afternoon (Monday 15th) for audition
Pay will be around £70-80 for the day. All meals (including breakfast) will be provided.

My cousin Natasha has a part in the next Harry Potter film.

I was once a "featured extra" in the *Joy Luck Club.* I'm not an actor, but an actor friend said I should try it. I was idle anyway, having just graduated from Cal (Berkeley) when the economy was in the toilet. I was 22 years old when I played one of the spinster-hag daughters (in their 40s) of the first wife of a wealthy merchant in China; he had 5 wives. It's the section where An-mei tells her story about finding her voice. Lots of me ended up on the cutting room floor, but it's okay because I hate looking at myself or hearing my own voice. I thought it was nice pay for a lot of sitting around looking pretty...or rather ugly in my case. I shared the stylist with the lovely Vivian Woo.

I thought the director, Wayne Wang, was a great guy to work for. I've also enjoyed his latest film, Center of the World... I think that's the title. I don't remember the title exactly, but it's about a stripper and an absurdly wealthy dotcommer geek.

never, but I once got a saturday superstore goodie bag live on air at Chesterfield market.

But Jack was in Tron, wasn't he Jonnie?

chris, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He certainly was.

Jonnie, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was in Inspector Morse twice. I'm barely noticible and 8. I was also in something which sank without a trace called, I think 'All In The Game'. Basically, I stood on the terraces of the Manor Ground in Oxford for an afternoon and cheered at goals. Crap.

I was in a short independant film playing ... a teenage prostitute who then turned into a zombie. I thank the Lord it never got a decent distribution.

Anna, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In common with everbody else in Manchester I was in the rebuilt Hacienda (aka a disused mill in Ancoats) for the filming of 24hour party people.

theycallmeMISTERjones, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Queen G, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Appeared in a commercial as part of a troop of marching, dancing gas station attendants. We were bored in the dorms one day.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh! I might be in a training video for *ai**bu*y*. Never saw it. Didn't want to be in it anyway.

alix, Monday, 15 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I was a featured extra on Third Watch, an hour long NBC drama... i was an asian heroin addict living in a park in harlem and had to look interested as the EMT people questioned my fellow teenage heroin addict about some dead girl.

Also, a featured extra on the Now & Again pilot... where i was some japanese businessman on a tokyo subway and somebody attacks my car with poison gas, and blood comes out my nose and ears..

phil-two, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me and a friend nearly went to be crowd extras in Bend it Like Beckham. I'm gonna see that and Cross Roads today!

I think that my wife and I will be appearing shortly as background extras in a non-sex scene in a porno video. We were not asked, not paid and signed no releases, and we are NOT AMUSED.

Colin Meeder, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My mother will appear in "Sekai Fushige Hakken" (or whatever that travel program is called). The special she appears in focuses on Belgium. As my mother's a lace expert, they asked her to appear in the program. Apparently it's an extremely popular program.

nathalie, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I made a ten second cameo in the film of my life. I was playing myself.

Ally C, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, aren't you a pop princess? Tell all!

Mark C, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This thread is about being an extra in a movie. Not being the STAR of a POP VIDEO Mark.

Ally C, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fuzzy (Fuzzy), Thursday, 27 March 2003 09:25 (twenty-three years ago)

When I was 22 and was in Shanghai I played a soldier, and I got to carry a Belgian rifle. I must have a picture of this.

Jan Geerinck (jahsonic), Thursday, 27 March 2003 09:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm in the forthcoming teen-rom-com 'What A Girl Wants,' starring Amanda Bynes and Colin Firth. I'm in the audience at a catwalk show, and also walking past dressed in Oxford gowns as the heroine rides off into the sunset on a motorbike. We got paid loads to sit around, eat, smoke, and go to the pub when no-one was looking.

One guy I met on the set had been a dead body in 'Saving Private Ryan,' and got personally bollocked by Spielberg for twitching when he wasn't supposed to.

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 27 March 2003 09:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Has anyone seen the Ally McCoist movie david h refers to? I heard it was supposed to be pretty good, but then I don't think it went straight to vid, never mind stright to the cinema.
