From today's Chronicle of Higher Education:

Bush Administration May Bar Some International Students From 'Sensitive' Academic Fields

And 'sensitive' could include any number of fields, from biotechnology (clearly they're going to use their knowledge to make anthrax!) to physics (where all discussions, of course, revolve around how to make bombs!) Aarghhh! Who knows where this policy will go?

but if we don't let these students in from other countries, how else are we going to learn their SECRETS?!

new answerz!

Paranoia is fun! I suspect business community pressure will change this policy pretty quickly.

Err the scary thing is the "some international students" (I think we can all guess which ones they have in mind). Ned however is spot-on: the American economy, if not the American public, has accepted the fact that the bulk of our work in "sensitive fields" will for the time being be done by the people of the Asian continent.

during the second world war those german physicists living in the united states sure fucked over the americans huh?! and those indian and chinese students that graduate at the top of their classe of 1 billion and then come to the US to do research are a real problem for america aren't they?

There's no way in hell this will happen.
