95 :( -- used to be tied with NYU in US News and World report. I will blame it on being in a shitty city.
― html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:02 (sixteen years ago)
Colleges aren't on this list.
― jaymc, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:02 (sixteen years ago)
EAH TAKE THAT BROWN FCUKING IVY LEAGUES MY ASS!!
6 of 8 of the fucking Ivy League schools beat you, and you topped 7 of 8 by one point
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:04 (sixteen years ago)
Aren't these polls done by peer ranking by admins at various schools?
― html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:05 (sixteen years ago)
damn you sure showed her gabbneb
― whatever the current LOL zing terminology is (max), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:05 (sixteen years ago)
anyway, this is silly - there's no indication what sort of criteria are used
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago)
i was just trying to be nice, max, and avoid pointing out that brown and dartmouth suck

i'm afraid that isn't especially illuminating, Que

lol gabb
― lol (HI DERE), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:11 (sixteen years ago)
it's actually not a terrible-looking list, but there are so many ways to evaluate a university as a whole - undergrad v grad, professional schools, sciences v non, etc. - and it doesn't appear that they evaluated more than overall impressions.
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:22 (sixteen years ago)
As if the U.S News list wasn't suspect enough, we now have this wonder.
I mean comparing universities across political, cultural, linguistic, pedalogical lines is kind of a hopeless/pointless endeavor.
― Super Cub, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:30 (sixteen years ago)
Isn't London School of Economics supposed to be really good? I guess I should have asked that question more before I applied and got in and am just about to pay a deposit.
― john mccain's illegitimate black child (musically), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:31 (sixteen years ago)
definitely make choices about your education based on this list
― Super Cub, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:33 (sixteen years ago)
I'm writing to cancel my offer as we speak.

top 103 US (includes nominal colleges)
#95 is #396 on the global list
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:41 (sixteen years ago)
35 US = not bad at all
― html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:43 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, lists like these are dumb. I was accepted to five schools in the US top 60 (including one in the top 10), but I decided to go to a school half as big as the smallest school on the list (which I'm assuming is Smith), so I don't make the cut.
― jaymc, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago)
LOL U NOT MAKE THE CUT U DUMB

gabb if you think for a second that i really think ANU and university of melbourne are better than university of sydney youre crazy
― Bright Future (sunny successor), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:51 (sixteen years ago)
ie i dont buy that list either
― Bright Future (sunny successor), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:52 (sixteen years ago)
Seeing the amount of time that deans spend thinking about this stuff and not on improving grad and ugrad education was one of the most depressing things about academia.
― html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:54 (sixteen years ago)
i was rejected from all the schools on these lists that i applied to
― whatever the current LOL zing terminology is (max), Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:56 (sixteen years ago)
i don't know anything about australian universities, sunny
i can't remember everywhere i applied. i got into at least 7 and was rejected by at least 4. i'm not sure whether i applied to anywhere below 22.
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 17:56 (sixteen years ago)
i got into at least one college not on the list, and think i maybe applied to at least one more but don't remember if i got in
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:01 (sixteen years ago)
awww jaymc. there is a top 500 list on that site too. maybe you'll find your college there.
― Bright Future (sunny successor), Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:08 (sixteen years ago)
the US list is bizarre.
― lauren, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:13 (sixteen years ago)
the only American "liberal arts colleges" on the list are ones with graduate study programs. thus, Dartmouth and Smith (both of which also have historical reputations), but no Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, Wellesley, etc. It's possible the Claremont colleges fell through the definitional cracks.
― gabbneb, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:14 (sixteen years ago)
71 world]25 us (undergrad)49 us (grad)
― the valves of houston (gbx), Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
It's OK, sunny. It's only #60 in the US News ranking of liberal arts colleges, anyway.
― jaymc, Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:18 (sixteen years ago)
Suggest Ban Permalinkthe only American "liberal arts colleges" on the list are ones with graduate study programs.
the only American "liberal arts colleges" on the list are ones with graduate study programs.
Isn't that part of the criteria for consideration for this list? (I looked at a lot of colleges without grad programs because of the higher quality of UG edu but decided on a big science school)
― html tarsier (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Thursday, 11 September 2008 18:20 (sixteen years ago)
