eh? eh? Who's going? and who may be going drinking to celebrate on Thursday night, with me and Cookie and, quite possibly, Madchen?

chris, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly my concert appearances will be Homelands UK, Glastonbury, possibly Creamfields UK, and Homelands Ireland in September.

I'd love to go to ATP but this year it's not an option.

Ronan, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ATP Japan, Autechre curating here I come.

Ed, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Me... although I'm not sure I'm looking forwar'. Guitars an' lyrics = unresolved 'issues' fer me at the moMINT.

david h, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am ...

... and you're not, Cabbage, unless you get your ticket off me ;)

David, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

please know that i hate you all deeply.

someone kidnap Wire and send them to me, ok? thanks.

petra jane, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But Petra, when unpacked from their shipping box, they would be crabby and might not wish to obey you.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just read this as "So who is going to ATP (240 New Answers)". Time fer my Quaaludes.

david h, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i think i'd rather pack the ex-lion tamers

and ronan "i am *only* going to A, B, C, D festival"...wtf? is it abnormal to "only" go to three or four festivals? is europe a state of CONSTANT FESTIVAL MAYHEM?!!

!!!

geeta, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is playing...I thought it was all post-rock this year? I might start a band called the Post-it Notes, but 3M probably won't allow it.

jel --, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not.

Oft-discussed pub question of late, for those who are going: Who would have to be playing ATP next year for you not to go?

Tom, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Petra Jane, you are very welcome to Wire as far as I am concerned. Wankers took so long over their sound check last time that other acts had to cut their sets short (Papa M having to stop really early pissed me off greatly). Why they need so long to get the sound of that turgid old rubbish right is beyond me.

David, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All of the people who are playing this year Tom. ;)

Yeh, it is all *groan* post rock. FUCKIN' HELL.

Surely for someone who is battling with himself re: the relevance of guitar music & the lyric then this is not the arena I should be putting myself in.

Sorry, melodrama.

Am I too apologetic? Mebbes...

david h, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they should get britney spears to curate atp next yr

geeta, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

NINA NASTASIA.

That is all.

Daver, Tuesday, 16 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have no idea who's playing this year, except the fall and the breeders, but seeing as for the last two years I've ended up seeing 4 bands each time, I'm not gonna worry about that and just get very drunk and talk to all manner of strangers, which is what usually happens. There are people that I only see once a year at ATP, it seems.

Steve.n, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If Britney curates next year, I am definetely going!

jel --, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

here's the critical question, though, jel: what does Britney listen to these days? Off the top of my head, here's my guess as to part of her lineup: Joan Jett, Madonna, Britney (of course), 'N Sync, The Rolling Stones, and maybe Guns 'n Roses?

word!

geeta, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Unless Britney decides "I love post-rock and roll", in which case, we're all fucked.

geeta, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to ATP.

ATP RoXoR.

I have never heard of most of the bands playing.

If most of the bands playing next year were sucky pop bands who SuXoR live then I would not go. Or if they were all sports metal bands I would not go. But if they are all bands I have never heard of, then I will go.

Mind you, if Autechre are curating next year I might spend the entire weekend rabbit watching.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But Petra, when unpacked from their shipping box, they would be crabby and might not wish to obey you

No they will. It will be like releasing a genie, they'll have to grant Petra three wishes in return for their liberty.

I'm going to ATP, tickets arrived this morning.

Anna, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I'm going this weekend w/ six other ppl. The more I look at the line-up, the less excited I get - Albini was on 'Mixing It' last week and he made it pretty clear that he doesn't have much time for groups that don't play 'real instruments' in 'real time'. Feh.

Andrew L, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone know who's curating next year? also i wish they'd sort the deejaying situation out. some of the people deejaying were really good last year, but it was a bit of a shambles, and Tortoise played one of the worst deejay sets i've ever heard (obscure underground hiphop, very badly mixed and with super lame scratching). such a waste of a good crowd and a venue licensed till 5 every night

michael, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

aren't the danielson family and meltbananana playing? i wish i was going - maybe they'll collaborate!

dave k, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i am not going. but if i was i would definitely want to catch The Lonesome Organists set. make sure you see him, and report back here. okay?

gareth, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I am going to ATP with some of my mates from Glasgow.

alext, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey Alex, the Frank's APA posse will fuck you up.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

or say hello.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Adenzi TriPhosphate, wha'? Rigor Mortis, wha'? What?!

forensicmedicalstudentwivnosenseoftiming, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael, it has just been announced that Autechre are curating ATP UK 2003. Apparently you can buy tickets in a few days (wtf?)

David, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh? what? Aaargh! The only thing which could possibly stop me from going to ATP was if none of my friends were going. The bands just get further away from my taste every year, so it doesn't really matter about them.

Ally C, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally: how about if you weren't drinking? The idea of going through the ATP experience sober certainly put me off this year.

Tim, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not going either, but this is cos chris smells (only kidding). it has become rather like what my granny used to do though. "ooh a nice weekend at pontins, well we see the same people every year, sit in the same place etc..."

could be tempted out for a drink on thurs though :)

CarsmileSteve, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmm post-rock. I am not going and I would dearly love to, the last two were the most fun I've had for ages, and I would really like to see OXES and Melt Banana and the Lonesome Organist live but I probably can't even make it to Oxes' London gigs, for all the usual reasons. So. I hate you all, especially those of you going, "Oh, the bands are rubbish and I hate guitars, but I'll be there." (Sorry, nothing personal, I don't really hate you and I'll feel better by May, but blah. My weekend looks even worse than the Friday 362 days ago. Sulk. But hmm, Autechre, that could be really good. Or really bad. Or neither. It probably means none of the lovely math-rock I'm missing this year though, sigh. The new Ae EP gives me a headache, I guess fold4wrap5 was the last thing they did which I liked.)

(I have no festival/gig fun planned at all and I've been working here for a month and I haven't even been paid yet and even when I do it'll cost 2 days' wages to get home from any possible evening out BAD MOOD BAD MOOD oh bloody hell someone stop these people using frontpage and putting 7000 font tags in I'm trying to CSS-ify the whole lot argh and stop them calling me rachel dammit gurgle gurgle no wait I'm calm really I am)

oxes fan, not called rachel, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

grr loads of clashes, well, two, breeders and Low clash on Friday and Wire and Godspeed crash, ho hum, more time in the bar I suppose. Seeing as there's few takers for drinks it may well be in Walthamstow Village, mmm, nice Hook Norton's Old Hooky beer.

chris, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

melt banana is GREAT live!

geeta, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's going to be chinstrokertastic next year, yeah?

FuXoR.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's ok, if you follow the co-efficient, by next year the Queen Vic will be open 24 hours a day.

chris, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cabbage, I might be up for a drink tomorrow eve - whereabouts are you thinking of, please?

David, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

looks like the stow David, not too bad for you methinks, if you're up for drivinmg, otherwise........

chris, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it's ok, if you follow the co-efficient, by next year the Queen Vic will be open 24 hours a day.

that is a vision of hell. The Queen Vic is a truly dreadful place. I know British pubs are gank, but even on that scale it is a shithole.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well, maybe not literally a shithole, but it's not very nice.

DV, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

Portishead, nightmare before xmas, almost sold out. Anyone here going? Was gonna buy a 4-bed and just see who was up for coming along but... didn't.

ledge, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:14 (eighteen years ago)

The line-up looks pretty good, but financial ruination of no job and a new house means it's very VERY unlikely I will make it this year.

ailsa, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

me neither :(

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:18 (eighteen years ago)

I'm putting F into cryogenic freezing the day after, so it's out for me too. Shame.

Pitchfork leaked as one of the curators next year.

aldo, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:20 (eighteen years ago)

you're doing waht?

ailsa, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

Since this year is a notable birthday for her, I am taking her to the Ice Hotel in Sweden. The bedrooms are a toasty-warm -6 or so, "which actually feels quite warm because it's -35 outside".

aldo, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

Cool. Quite literally, in fact.

ailsa, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

It's going to be fucking freezing.

hey, g-kit, you know that photo of you and onimo on the DDR with the scared girl in the background? the scared girl was there when we were in hotshots!

ailsa, Friday, 23 May 2008 08:04 (seventeen years ago)

damn, we should've demanded a reshoot.

g-kit, Friday, 23 May 2008 08:18 (seventeen years ago)

Imagine going to ATP just to stand by DDR machines looking scared. That's dedication.

Is this about The Nightmare Before Christmas? Just bought tickets!

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Thursday, 30 April 2009 10:54 (sixteen years ago)

nope. breeders weekend first.

nbc sounds good obv. but then will see MBV at primavera innit

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Thursday, 30 April 2009 10:55 (sixteen years ago)

"vs The Fans" weekend for me.

I'm thinking about going to the Christmas one too but haven't convinced myself yet.

the innermost wee guy (onimo), Thursday, 30 April 2009 10:59 (sixteen years ago)

no ATP for me for the first year since ought-four. :'( I'm not sure if my not being particularly enthused about either lineup is a little bit of unconscious compensation for not being remotely able to afford to go.

I get a horrible feeling that this year's NBC will end up with a lineup not even, um (I think there's a notable literary reference here but it escapes me) could deceive themselves about.

Ralph, Waldo, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 30 April 2009 11:24 (sixteen years ago)

Breeders & Nightmare for me.

to the breeders one?

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:05 (sixteen years ago)

(may have space in chalet)

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Thursday, 30 April 2009 12:06 (sixteen years ago)

Hmmm, Nightmare Before Christmas. Have already seen MBV, De La Soul and Sonic Youth recently, but all were A+++ would watch again, even at the other end of the country in freezy cold December.

(money has forced me out of plans for either of the upcoming ones, more's the pity)

ailsa, Thursday, 30 April 2009 16:41 (sixteen years ago)

I would go to all these ATPs but too skint :(

Make credit crunch go away so my wife can get a job and I'll buy yr Breeders tickets Ken.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 30 April 2009 16:55 (sixteen years ago)

it was grate.

#/.'#/'@ilikecats (g-kit), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 12:57 (sixteen years ago)

aw sad face.

ok some bits (some are not actually so much as highlights e.g. this):

  • They've upgraded butlins!! The upstairs centre stage bar now looks a bit like star trek enterprise - except they neglected to change the carpet so it still smells like 500 wetherspoons dumped into a sewer. BUT they also now sell icecream, pancakes and jacket potatoes so one can be dining at a table while watching RAWK.
  • some chalets now also seem to have LEATHER SOFAS and MODERN BATHROOMS with AMBIENT LIGHTINGS and NEW SHOWERS zomg
  • chalet karaoke party - LIPS on xbox360 has all the best songs ever and it also told me that i pwn3d the UNIVERSE when i scored 1,500,000 pts.
  • watched man united win the league at the sports bar (there were more people there than watching some bands)
  • peeled myself away from eurovision to watch breeders and danced with an overly excited lady
  • participated in a 400 people group hug with k1mya daw5on
  • randomly ended up playing late night poker at st3v3 alb1n1's chalet and won £60!!!!!!

ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Tuesday, 19 May 2009 13:16 (sixteen years ago)

If anyone wants to join me on a walking tour of Minehead on saturday afternoon, get in touch. The town has some amazing sights, including a train station and Arthur C. Clarke's birthplace.

I'm going this weekend: MBV/Nightmare B4 Xmas. It will indeed be awesome.

New DV I doubt I will be awake on Saturday afternoon but would otherwise enjoy exploring Minehead. It would make so sense not doing so, after a 5 hr train journey.

Tannenbaum Schmidt, Tuesday, 1 December 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago)

Tomorrow! Can't wait.

I'm getting really excited about it now.

jellybean (back again) (Jill), Thursday, 3 December 2009 10:55 (fifteen years ago)

still really disappointed there's no actual mine heads in minehead.

they should really have put the MBV one in an underground bunker. no problems with noise regulations if it's down in a hole in the ground, right?

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 3 December 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be at MBV shizz this weekend. Sucks that they still haven't sorted out decent/sufficient transport to the site from Taunton station!

Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Thursday, 3 December 2009 14:35 (fifteen years ago)

i want a festival in a mine.

Karen Tregaskin, Thursday, 3 December 2009 14:39 (fifteen years ago)

Not the best ATP ever, but still wasn't bad.

Some ace, ace sets from mum, Dirty Three, Sun Ra Arkestra and School of Seven Bells,

Finally gave in to the 2p machines.. don't want to think about how much I spent on it...
