Why are they standard issue? What is the point of them?...Why should I have to Switch from my Card Saver account to Open Plan, just so that I can get a proper VISA card. Hate, hate, hate!!!!!

WHY?

Graham, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Switch better than visa debit or electron, don't know why just is, as long as it is maestro as well it can be used world wide.

Ed, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still hating them.

And I was just refused direct debit on my phone. How can I have a bad credit history? I've never had any

[Notes friendly minus sign on bank balance]

Graham, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you earn enough money to have a credit card? sheesh, some people are lucky...

Queen G-bah Humbug, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey this thread is basically the cause of me WORRYING VERY BADLY that I will haf very bad credit history so lovely HOUSE (mentioned on other thread) will GO DOWN THE PAN. Please tell me it needs to be REALLY BAD before they refuse you? I am not skint or in shitloads of debt by any stretch of the imagination put it one way. Not anymore, at least.

Sarah, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I mean I am in good credit with my card which is actually manageable and and I have a regular income a-a-and pay my bills and stuff on time a-a-and I NEED SOME GIN *weeps*

Sarah, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You'll be fine I reckon, as long as you haven't been hugely evil to your bank for about a year and can prove you haave money coming in. (I speak from experience of having had a very dodgy credit rating for years which cleared up about six months ago and now financial people are nice to me.)

Anna, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You haven't got a bad credit history unless you have defaulted on big debts or run up huge bills on 100000 credit cards and not paid them off. Paying a few bills late and forgetting to service the few hundred quid you have on a credit card is not going to cause trouble.

RickyT, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sure it'll be okay Sarah! (hopefully someone in the know will answer!)

I was moaning about Visa Electron coz I was having trouble getting Pokemon tickets, and the Woolwich said I'd have to change my account to get a proper Visa.

jel --, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What about me, RickyT?

Graham, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jel you shouldn't have mentioned pokemon: you should have said puccini's la boheme

mark s, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(I was writing my answer whilst Anna and RT posted theirs)

(Oh yeah! I meant Puccini-chu!)

jel --, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jel, if you told them that you're lucky they didn't change your account to one where you get a free piggy family piggy bank for every £10 you save up.(*covers head and awaits a flurry of fury*)

Jonnie, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I want one of THOSE!

Sarah, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"We are the Westminster piggies - a family
Of beautiful porcelain pigs
We give this wobbly wallchart
And a pig in his birthday suit
What a wonderful bundle of Loot
Piggaro. Pigarro.

Yep Sarah - you financially fine there. And Queen G - any old fucker can get a credit card here.

Pete, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Graham if you want a credit card try these: Capital One there always advertising for new customers.

DJ Martian, Thursday, 18 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah those Piggy banks must be collectors items by now! *ker-ching*

Hmmm. Bringing this thread back UP again - now we are worried we won't be able to get any references from our current landlady being as she is DODGY. *sigh*

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Tom should be able to provide them with a solid reference, and if you're in doubt the work ones will be fine. If everything else checks out about you lot, then they'll realise the dodgy landlady is exactly that.

suzy, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've forged references for people before. Ho ho. Just write a reference for you landlady and get her to sign it. Its probably not that she is dodgy, more that she is layzee.

Pete, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they use aliases for official business = they are dodgy

RickyT, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Never use your real name. Names haf power. The power to kill you (or on official business the power for you to get done for tacs evasion).

Pete, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I spoke to the estate agents not actually telling them the problems, but just asked about 'timescale of credit checks' and that and they said the important thing to get right was the... EMPLOYMENT BIT! Yay! My employment thing is FINE. Also we can forge a ref letter from landlady if NEED BE btu I'm not sure if that will be called for - they will see from bank statements that rent was paid each month innit?
