Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:47 (seventeen years ago)

> the General

1927 or 1998? Possibly irrelevant for me, but I'll bet there's a couple Buster Keaton obsessives around here.

1927

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

It is on the same DVD disc as Steamboat Bill Jr – $4 at Wal-Mart! Eat a dick, Kino.

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

Blade Runner.

==つ~~~(o)(o) (libcrypt), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

Haha! That certainly fits better with your persona than some gangster flick about a fat Irish crimelord.

xp

There is no Grodd but Mallah and Congorilla is His Prophet. (Oilyrags), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:52 (seventeen years ago)

There's a lot to like there, but I'm leaning toward Triplets.

A Clockwork Orange

Vision, Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

I uh....ok, if you say so.

xp again

Clockwork Orange summary: "In spite of often wearing a hat, I do some bad crimes."

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Tuesday, 16 September 2008 23:58 (seventeen years ago)

Abott, a more concise and less sartorial summary: A Clockwork Orange- "London 2008"
Also lots of genius handheld camerawork, the offputting soundtrack etc.

Vision, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

"Young man does some bad crimes that apparently happened within the past few months."

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

"Also: some tits."

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

Capturing the Friedmans and Blade Runner

Zeno, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

You have a point there, the ultraviolence and the tits are still equally relevant. Kubrick had very good taste in women (not necessarily main characters), beginning with that wonderful "Paths of Glory" finale with his future wife Christiane.

Vision, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

i might be in the minority here but i think Clockwork is one of Kubrik's weakest movies ever

Zeno, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

The commonplace view by now is that ACO is more of a not so rigorous affair after the obsessive technical prowess and the complex storyline in 2001, but A Clockwork Orange casts a longer shadow, not just in the way it speaks of juvenile delinquency but also because of the juxtapositions between high and low in general, which are still shocking imo.

Vision, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't read the thread so not sure if this was brought up already, but A Clockwork Orange slaughters the rest of your collection. I'm sure it's had several mentions and votes already... so, here's another vote.

ilxor, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 01:02 (seventeen years ago)

Clockwork Orange's takeaway message: knife crime was a huge problem in our collective future, until we got tough on punks.

Aimless, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 01:13 (seventeen years ago)

Nobody's representing for The Fly? Really? Fine, I will.

I know, right?, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

how the hell do you own TRON and WarGames but not Real Genius

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 01:47 (seventeen years ago)

people repping for ACO need to get off the internet and finish their college algebra homework

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 01:48 (seventeen years ago)

yeah let's go back to repping for real movies like tron

J.D., Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:04 (seventeen years ago)

Sometimes I think the fly is my favourite Cronenberg. Its so funny how he makes the love story so tender and lovely but smothers it in queasiness.

I know, right?, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:09 (seventeen years ago)

The one what takes place in Dogpatch.

briania, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:12 (seventeen years ago)

I was also thinking about voting for The Fly

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:14 (seventeen years ago)

I think I've only seen 18 of these.

Kerm, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:16 (seventeen years ago)

Went with Guffman, though the Cronenberg Fly is undoubtedly better.

Eric H., Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:42 (seventeen years ago)

Waiting for Gufman

"I hate you...and I hate your ASS FACE!"

Dirty Sanchez (Bo Jackson Overdrive), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

omen because it looks pretty

Bright Future (sunny successor), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 02:49 (seventeen years ago)

Dueds Tombot I wnt v bad for the lazers to lead the way to A Real Genius Party...I don't know how I don't own it. Popcorn!

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

But I don't think I've bought a movie for 2.5 years, so why start again?

Abbott loves her turtle (Abbott), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

It just occurred to me that both Real Genius and Tron make use of the literary trope of lasers leading the way.

Everything is Highlighted (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 03:05 (seventeen years ago)

A Clockwork Orange is a good flick and all, but it's not even in 2001's league. If Blade Runner weren't there, I might have gone with it.

==つ~~~(o)(o) (libcrypt), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 04:24 (seventeen years ago)

You should have a parallel poll for the worst film.

==つ~~~(o)(o) (libcrypt), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 04:26 (seventeen years ago)

what no The Wiz?

BODY PROP (nickalicious), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 04:40 (seventeen years ago)

The General.

Dirty Sanchez (Bo Jackson Overdrive), Wednesday, 17 September 2008 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

Went with Princess Mononoke, but I think Yellow Submarine is up there.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 12:18 (seventeen years ago)

Faust!

Daniel_Rf, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 22:33 (seventeen years ago)

Wow, you really gave us a lot of time to vote on this, huh?

I know, right?, Wednesday, 17 September 2008 22:34 (seventeen years ago)

WarGames, of course. THE ONLY WINNING MOVE IS NOT TO PLAY.

In a Soviet Big Country, Bagpipes Sound Like Guitars! (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 18 September 2008 11:07 (seventeen years ago)

"Steamboat Bill Jr" I watched this the other night and laffed loads. Also, the storm hitting the town is awesome. If I hadn't watched it probably I'd have voted for "Faust".

You've got loads of great movies, Abbott!

The Plastic Fork (Pashmina), Thursday, 18 September 2008 12:37 (seventeen years ago)

Are we talking Murnau's Faust, or Svankmajer's, or another one?

Great collection of cult sci-fi there. You need Kin-Dza-Dza.

shieldforyoureyes, Thursday, 18 September 2008 14:26 (seventeen years ago)

Svankmajer

Abbott, Friday, 19 September 2008 00:46 (seventeen years ago)

Murnau Faust I can watch (IIRC) on archive.org

Abbott, Friday, 19 September 2008 01:15 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 2 October 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Shit, I accidentally voted Alice as I saw the Svankmajer name there, but can I put it on record that I meant to vote for Faust? Thanking ye.

emil.y, Thursday, 2 October 2008 23:23 (seventeen years ago)
