He's strapping himself to it and there are police cars gathering.

COR!!! we had a bomb scare the other day and police cordoned off Ilford basically, but this is much more interesting. what's happening now?

Outside M&S in Oxford Street. It's swaying a bit.

Anna, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So it's not Vincent Bethell then? He's an idol of mine. Nothing to do with his cause, I must add. His beard.

Graham, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

He's probably celebrating the fact that tax-free betting has been extended to bingo.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, back from the window now. Political activist, he's just unfurled a banner saying "Israel is a terrorist state". There are other people handing out leaflets in the crowd now. He's having a few problems unfurling the banner in the wind. Two police men sitting on the bonnet of their car talking to his fellow protester who's smoking a roll up.

That nutty Pilger, what will he think of next!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sounds like that Omar Bakri guy.

Ronan, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, now he's started shouting about media lies in the Independant. Can't really make out what he's saying from up here, but he got a round of aplause from the crowd. Oh except from an American/Canadian girl who has stomped off shouting 'fuck you, fuck you, it's all shit.'

Anna, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Does this take you back to your "NEWS REPORTING" days? Apparently the key is to actually write about what's happening.

Ronan, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes it's rather fun, I haven't done live copy in ages.

Just call me Anna Nova.

Anna, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How could you tell she was dual citizenship?

Dare, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If I had the sense/nerve to spend half of my working day on ILX, I could have strolled round from Tottenham Court Road and watched this as it happened. Damn.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 17 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is the guy still there?
