Kilmer tipped to become New Mexico Governor
Last Update: 9/15 1:20 pm
Hollywood star Val Kilmer is tipped to become the next governor of his home state of New Mexico by the politician currently holding the position.
Democrat Bill Richardson has to step down from the position when his second term ends in 2011, and he would love to hand over the keys to the governor's mansion to Kilmer.
He says, "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics.
"I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted."
Kilmer, who is actively involved with the The Wildlife Center of New Mexico, wouldn't be the first actor to become a governor. Hollywood icons Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Reagan have both held the position in California.

Oh my gosh, Val Kilmer...as my governor.
The worst part is I can never tell him from that other guy! I'd have to be like, "Is our governor the one who was in Real Genius or the Thing?" "KURT RUSSEL was in The Thing."
(I had to ask my husband this just now...like I can keep those two straight!)

Richardson is EASY to tell apart from everyone, roly-poly little cowboy boot Hispanic w/Brian Wilson hair. Domenici, whatevs. But I can't keep track of Kilmer v. Russel! What if one day I could not recall whether my elected official was in WONDERLAND or if that other guy was? (Also: why did I watch that movie?) "Is PLISKIN our governor or is that the other guy?"
I really don't know!

Was Reagan really a "Hollywood icon"? I thought he was considered a B-rate actor before his political career.

Real Genius and Top Secret should count for more than the Batman movie.
