Help me find a book

I can't remember the title or author, but there was this book that I think might have been in that scholastic book club thing that they gave you pamphlets to order from in elementary school. It was all illustrated in sort of dark Gorey-ish drawn pictures (although I'm almost certain it wasn't gorey) and was set in the future, where some future archeologist had discovered a city from our time and was trying to reconstruct it, with humorous results. For instance, I remember one of the pictures was of the fellow's wife wearing a "head-dress", which was actually a toilet seat with the "sanitized for your protection" (or something like that) band over her forehead. It was a parody of the photo of the wife of the guy who discovered King Tut's tomb (I think) wearing a bunch of egyptian jewelry. Does anyone have any idea what book this was? It was fairly thin, and was aimed at children, like middle school age I guess. I'd like to find it, I remember really enjoying it.
