Battle of the neurotics!

Allen = actively neurotic (when in character)
Seinfeld = Passively Neurotic (when in character)

No contest in my book. Its Woody all the way (his mastery of physical humour as well as the variety oand depth of his films marks him out at the moment as being in a different league).

Even Woody Allen's stand-up records from 40+ years ago are funnier than Jerry Seinfeld. This isn't even fair. Mel Brooks vs. Woody Allen might make for a slightly closer match at least.

Woody'd fight dirty - probably using implements that came to hand as weapons such as pens, forks and saxamaphones.

Yeah, they've done completely different things, it just isn't a good matchup.

Seinfeld is essentially comfortable in himself. Woody's jokes are born of pain at being human; it's like he can scarcely believe he's been trapped in this strange body. I prefer the latter, though Seinfeld's got some very good jokes i.e "why don't dogs have money? A: no pockets" well I laughed at least

It would be the feeblest fite evah.

I kept reading how Seinfeld was so great, so I gave it a few tries, and it wouldn't make my top ten American sitcoms of the last decade by a long way. Woody Allen has very frequently been very funny and has made lots of great films.

Allen's at his funniest when trying to deal with real life, as his various unscripted performances have shown over the years. Would he have made a better documentarian than D.A. Pennebaker would have a non-doc filmer?

I've never seen a Woody Allen movie. I think if I did I'd only get frustrated.

Oh no no no they are GRATE Lindsey.

A better battle would be between Woody Allen and Seinfield's co- creator, Larry David. Obviously, Woody is up there with Groucho Marx in the comedy pantheon, but Larry David is breaking new neurotic comedy ground (if such a thing exists) on Jerry's show, as well as his own on HBO.

seven months pass...
Boris: What if there is no God?...What if we're just a bunch of absurd people who are running around with no rhyme or reason?

Sonia: But if there is no God, then life has no meaning. Why go on living? Why not just commit suicide?

Boris: Well, let's not get hysterical! I could be wrong. I'd hate to blow my brains out and then read in the papers they found something!

This whole page of quotes is fantastic. I love that film.
