i. Are we allowed NOT to talk over tracks as they play?
ii. On what side (ie 3 or 4) are we allowed to consider fading Metal Machine Music?

mark s, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a) No playlist. Individuals may have playlists if they want to be so anal.

b) Talking over records is obligatory. Especially crashing the vocal. Radio Ilx - The Music Station Where Talk Rules.

Pete, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

In keeping with the tradition of the boards (especially today) we should only introduce records we played 3 hours (or days) ago. The playlist should then be deleted. Who are supercute?

Jeff W, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I are mostly playing UK HipHop. And interviewing Out Da Ville out Robin Hood. The Lunchtime teaser will be "What Is Postmodernism", and we'll be doing a phone-in about rubbish ideas for sitcoms/dramas (ie Cutting It versus My Mother The Car).

Pete, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Radio Ktee is playing the Pixies and yo la tengo (gigge tomorrow HURRAH) and Broadcast and the GRIMLEYS soundtrack which has Gary Numang and Elvis Costello and The Clash on it. current phone-in chat is dealing with the topics of: oil burners, babies in the office, shoes, being a ballet dancer and making cups of tea. ooh and it's lunchtime now, here is the NEWS...

Radio Ktee, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I HAVE NO DISCMAN TODAY STOP TORMENTING ME.

Last things I listened to were in backwards order.

Half an Hour ago...........Joey Beltram mix CD in someones house.

3.00-7ish-Dave Clarke World Service thingy in same house.

11-2.30-DJ set from my friend at the Kitchen, highlight was a Sex Pistols song thrown in the middle of the set.

When I go home I want to listen to the Avalanches. Incredibly badly.

'Miserere' by Michael Nyman's Campiello Band, and Cardew's 'Battle March', both off David Toop's otherwise disappointing avant compilation 'Not Necessarily English Music'.

Also Chinese classical music, streaming radio.

Momus, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Today I have been mostly listening to: The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson...and Barcelona's "Kasey Keller" and a My Favorite song I downloaded, something about dancing with ghosts, a bit goth.

radio jel --, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I made it from CD singles Graham, and all my Helen Love singles are on 7" vinyl. Plus the intention was (mostly) to get all the stuff I'm too lazy arsed to stick on (cos they're singles) and don't listen too much. I have a whole Helen Love md (Love, Glitter, etc, plus various off all the radio hits)

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(Kasey Keller = JIZZRAG howevah I actually quite like the song but dislike it's subject mattah boo hiss Barcelona)

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, man. Bubble in the Haze!

Bob Zemko, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Radio Douglas this morning is playing Mirah's "Cold Cold Water," Nobukazu Takemura's "Mimic Robot," Kronos Quartet's "El Llorar," Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's "Do You Wanna Get It," Sonic Youth's "Radical Adults Lick Godhead Style," and a forthcoming album of Mark Eitzel with a Greek rembetika band.

Douglas, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Currently

Groove Armada-Superstylin', pulled out this mp3 which i'd been sick of.

Then assorted Josh Wink, Chems, Basement Jaxx, Carter, some electro and the Stooges Fun House in the CD part of the computer.

Ronan, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

gingrr DJs wiv hooge insecure egos

Yay! Thanks, kisskiss, I know you meant me, because you all love me, don't you, huh, don't you? Oh God, maybe you don't! Wah...

I will continue your Finnish theme (mm Circle) by playing lots and lots of Aavikko records and a bit of Ovuca. I might try to play some CMX and YUP too but I think at the first ridiculously pompous Cardiacs-meets-hair-metal-with-occasional-worryingly-Proclaimersish-vo cals growling of YUP I would be booted off. Also Bogdan Raczynski - DnB Classixxx96 stuff (if I can work out what speed it should be at) and perhaps some Polvo. I might then try a tortuous and tenuous segue of five records with the word "five" in the title, just because I want to play Proswell's "Hip Kids Rack Fives" and the Mountain Goats' "Cubs In Five". I suppose this would involve playing Pavement's "5-4 = Unity". I think it would be best if I have a slot when nobody will be listening.

an' then we get jizzy with billie piper !

Groo. No ta, I've just changed my mind. [Rest of ILX breathes sigh of relief]

Rebecca, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I, of course, am going to insist that we throw on the Poem-Cees record post-haste.

Dan Perry, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Have now decided that wanting to play stuff at the right speed = rockism. However, since the only national radio precedent for this stance is rockists' idol John Peel and records which say "pressed at 45, play at any speed" or similar are almost always from deliberately obscure and rockist artists and labels, I may not be able to justify this. Hmm.

Rebecca, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay! Thanks, kisskiss, I know you meant me, because you all love me, don't you, huh, don't you? Oh God, maybe you don't! Wah...

Hey Rebecca, can you mail me a working email address?

Graham, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate Bush, Kate Bush Kate Bush Kate Bush!!!! Kate Buuuuush.... Kate Buuuuuush.

Heh, I've had the cool thing again when words repeated too many times fail to make sense at just flop about on the tongue. (I NEED A NEW JOB).

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Rebecca I emailed you too but it must have died a foul and evil death - ahem back to the regular show with THE NEW MOLDY PEACHES SINGLE ha ha take that you suckahs.

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

deliberately obscure and rockist artists and labels = 555 of (formerly) Leeds and (now) Americky (boohiss!)

RickyT, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's all HER fault.

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

She gave me an evil look you know. And then she took Stewart AWAY. And I hadn't even managed to meet him yet never make him my cute little boyfriend. Ha well my heart belongs to THE STREETS anyway *coff* (she refers to mingy chiXoR in crap emo band btw who I shall not name in case of GOOGLE!)

Sarah, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am confused. This is probably only to be expected after yet another caffeine-based Friday lunch followed by buying more caffeine (bloody Pepsi machine tried to eat 40p, had to spend about five minutes poking around with a biro I nicked from the helpdesk to get it out). But then I need it because I stayed up stupidly late last night playing Civilization 3 (those pesky Russians! get orff moi laaaand! and why can't I be a Viking any more?). Er. Anyway.

1. Take the email address on this post - i.e. my old one which doesn't work any more because another.com are evil - and swap the low-fi and the spacecadet and it should reach me. I'll email you two the proper address in a minute, too.

2. Indeed, RickyT. 555 ist lovely. I have another non-555 7" with similar instructions too.

Would someone like to tell me about Osymyso's pre-Intro Inspection career? I picked up a white label 12" on Hansome (sic, I believe, at least if their inkstamp is to be trusted) marked "Osymyso - Being Born - Hansy003" wondering if it was the same bloke and it seems that it is. What else has he done?

(Got into an argument on a filesharer/chat app the other day about whether or not Intro-Inspection was the most brilliant work of artistic genius ever because of its concept regardless of all other considerations, which ended amicably despite needlessly savage personal attacks by both sides when we both declared love and admiration for Freaky Trigger. k-blimey! Also non-ILX ex-ama type from whom I've bought some cds [I know, I know...] also turns up there from time to time. Internet = small world. Must stop getting into arguments on it.)

Rebecca, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(said ex-ama-non-ilx person = Persi of the 1001 ebay auctions, by any chance?)

RickyT, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, thought it would be fairly obvious, hence the "I know, I know" disclaimer. I suppose you are entitled to flog me for encouraging spammers if you wish. At least I didn't buy anything off the Willing Synthners or that guy on ukma who keeps spamming his website featuring 3000 rubbish britpop cd singles for "bargain" prices of around 1.50 each. Yet. (Mm ebay I love you)

Rebecca, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, I see we've begun the small talk here.

I've been out of the DJ loop so long I don't know what I would play right now. Hm. Maybe I'll just hook up a connection to my housemate Ben's mixes.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Kasey Keller is a cool dude!

jel --, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I get the feeling I'd be the only one listening to anything I played, and that I'd be bouncing off the walls like an idiot doing the 4 o clock in the morning shift after coming home or something.

Ronan, Friday, 19 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three weeks pass...
I'm sorry, but words cannot describe how fantastic Big Pink Candyfloss Haircut really us. Go HELEN LOVE!

Graham, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

just you and me graham, just you and me. to continue the "love"-in (do you SEE), I was jumping around on an underground platform in the dark last night listening to Mint Royale on my walkman. JUST THE BEST.

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark and Lards version of Mintys THAT'S NICE wuz BRILLIANT.

Sarah, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ONE-NIL to the Super Kay. ONE-NIL to the Super Kay.

Graham, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I brought my discman out with me last Saturday night because I decided sitting on the bus home gyrating to the sound of the engine and the beat in my head was no longer fun. But when the music stopped in the club I ran over (like a true nerd) and got my coat and stuck my discman on.

I was dancing away for about 3 songs before I would admit to myself that noone else could hear anything and I looked like a tit.

Ronan, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

All radio DJs need to have at least one really long rec w/ 'em just in case they have to visit the loo/shoot up/grope a groupie etc. So I'm packing 'The Wisdom Prepared' (74:58) by Fushitsusha - that should do wonders for the audience figures too!

Andrew L, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The boy next door had curly hair,
Like Brian May meets Yogi Bear,
He bought a Les Paul flash guitar,
On his mother's credit card,
Used to play those guitar licks,
To Eric Clapton's greatest hits,BR>And when he had his friends to stay,
They'd all come round my house and say:

You won't het far with that stupid Kay guitar,
Little girl, what you do with that Woolworth's cheep guitar?
Hey now they're fixing window seals,
And we've got a record deal,
We saw them just the other day and laughed straight in their faces.

Boy next door, you had everything in the world,
Could have been a footballer with that perm,
Thought you were a popstar too, all the girls...
Yeah, yeah, you don't get me,
Yeah, yeah, you don't get me,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
We saw you all the other day and laughed straight in your faces.

The boy next door was in a band,
That once got played by Tommy Vance,
Told us he was leaving school,
For jumbo jets and swimming pools,
Had a party out the back,
And all his mates that came to stay,
Smashed down my back door to say:

You won't het far with that stupid Kay guitar,
Little girl, what you do with that Woolworth's cheep guitar?
Hey now they're fixing window seals,
And we've got a record deal,
We saw them just the other day and laughed straight in their faces.

Boy next door, you had everything in the world,
Could have been a footballer with that perm,
Thought you were a popstar too, all the girls...
Yeah, yeah, you don't get me,
Yeah, yeah, you don't get me,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
We saw you all the other day and laughed straight in their faces.

Boy next door we took pictures of you,
Jumping up and down when your mother went to town,
Caught you putting on her makeup and secret blouses,
We made a video and we took it round the houses

Hey boy next door you don't get me,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
One-nil to the Super Kay,
We saw you all the other day and laughed straight in their faces.
Wave goodbye to the boy next door, [yeah yeah]
Wave goodbye to the boy next door, [yeah yeah]
Wave goodbye to the boy next door [yeah yeah],
Wave goodbye to the boy next door. Yeah yeah.

REBECCA TO THREAD

Graham, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

B-but people will point and laugh at me and get annoyed.

Oh, they do anyway.

*mumbles* Who's that boy with the ocean green eyes in Rough Trade every Saturday? Don't he look cute in his 80s tracksuit? I wish I hadn't thrown mine anyway... but I bet he's not a real punk boy, I bet he's not a real punk boy, I bet he's not a real punk boy at all...

Hey, Graham, have you played the Flash game on the Mint Royale website? You might like it. Probably nobody else here will, but hey. It's called Star Island and it's by the same people (Unit9) who did the fly game for Clinic's "Second Line". Wow, what a job, eh? Envy. Er, anyway, yeah, it's approximately here, and yes, I do have too much time on my hands.

My best tube station music moment ever = was getting lost in a tube station, I forget which one, because half the corridors were blocked due to maintenance, and it was just after a Clinic gig which I'd wanted to go to but I'd opted to see Jameson (yay!) and the Workhouse (yay!) and the newly-reformed Linoleum (zzz) instead since I'd seen Clinic a month before, and I was standing in the middle of a corridor thinking, "Right, that redirection sign I just followed was wrong, so how the hell do I get to the Victoria line?" and five twenty-something blokes walked the other way singing loudly and wordlessly. And I thought, "That sounds familiar." And then it dawned on me, and I spun drunkenly round and said, "Clinic! Return of Evil Bill!" and they look confused and then they beamed drunkenly back and nodded, and then we went our separate ways again. Actually this is not going to sound like a classic moment to anyone else, just like me making an arse of myself after too much vodka and coke AGAIN, but yay all the same.

friday is caffeine day, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow Rebecca, now I can break even more AIS regulations at once (ie Playing games while connecting non AIS approved equipment (my laptop) to the network and drinking coke from a bottle without a sports top. Now all I have to do is start messing with the screen resolutions and I can get EXPELLED)

Graham, Friday, 10 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

CUTE! CUTE! CUTE! (space harrier?)

You Beotch.

Wow, what a job, eh? Envy.

Why aren't you? (We?). Seriously.

Graham, Saturday, 11 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I WUV BECCA L!
