haha I spend a lot of money on this hobby!
In long ago times "uncle bukowski" was the option, but now it's just like 39-45.
Keep in mind it's football season and also I work 2pm - 10pm. Whatever. Everybody on ILX already thinks of me as The Drunk Mod, I don't give a fuck. Ask anybody who was in brooklyn a month ago!

i recently bumped up my intake to 2-3 cocktails per day, very rarely do i skip a day. this is a new development in the last 6 months, i used to take 2-3 days off a week. on the plus side i almost never binge.

velko, Saturday, 27 September 2008 04:08 (seventeen years ago)

For the internet record, I'm a steady pace of 3-4 per weekday, 5-6 per weekend, aka riggimslaggim

Z S, Saturday, 27 September 2008 04:12 (seventeen years ago)

Less than I used to, more than I should (haha I am in 1-7 category).

SSRIs reduce the effect of alcohol by at least 1/2. Kind of skews it for me.

Teetotal.

krakow, Saturday, 27 September 2008 06:49 (seventeen years ago)

Not teetotal, just generally non-drinking, but not from a disproving pov. It's a taste and volume thing.

El Tomboto, Saturday, 27 September 2008 07:21 (seventeen years ago)

I've become much less militant about my not drinking as years have progressed. I do drink very very occasionally, but it probably averages out to <5 units a year.

I own 3 or more Billy Joel albums, in a normal week.

SSRIs reduce the effect of alcohol by at least 1/2

Really? I have the opposite experience. Not double the effect but I get more disorientated/woozy than I did before I took them.

I'm assuming 1 beer = 1 pint?

My ancient, creaking body can't handle much more than I drink now, I get worrisome pains in my kidneys if I have a heavy week.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 27 September 2008 13:20 (seventeen years ago)

probably 8-14, which is pleasing. three years ago it'd have been something rather more hellish.

synaptic knob (grimly fiendish), Saturday, 27 September 2008 13:20 (seventeen years ago)

all of mine is Saturday and Sunday, pretty much. v seldom drink during the week apart from the odd beer with dinner.

Local Garda, Saturday, 27 September 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah I frequently have 10 or 11 on a Friday and 4 or 5 on a Saturday and if I'm not going out mid-week, like to a gig or something, I'll probably not drink at all in between, maybe 1 or 2 beers.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 27 September 2008 13:34 (seventeen years ago)

1-7, though it can vary sharply from week to week. In my more heroic moments I can reach Tombot heights of drinkery, but those are really, really, really seldom.

RabiesAngentleman, Saturday, 27 September 2008 13:46 (seventeen years ago)

I'm on the 22-28 mark now, I think, most weeks. Slipping into the catchment area above on big weeks.

Not so long ago it was the case that I pretty much never went a day without a beer, it's a lifestyle that's very easy to slip into, especially in a job like mine where there are lots of drinking opportunities. Now I tend to confine bouzing to the weekends and maybe one weeknight, but I don't drink any more on those occasions than I used to.

Matt DC, Saturday, 27 September 2008 14:05 (seventeen years ago)

Although I tend to stick to beer around the 4.5% mark.

Matt DC, Saturday, 27 September 2008 14:07 (seventeen years ago)

Christ, I read the title of this thread as How Often Do You Think? Actually started considering it. As for drink? Er, all the time?

GamalielRatsey, Saturday, 27 September 2008 15:47 (seventeen years ago)

i've really changed up and am in the 1-7 category now. even if i go crazy one night, i'm still not gonna pass that number, and then probably won't drink again for a week. i'm old and tired. drinking is hard.

highly theoretical, of course. (tehresa), Saturday, 27 September 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

gabbneb, Saturday, 27 September 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)

Fuck you, I don't own ANY Billy Joel albums

There is no Grodd but Mallah and Congorilla is His Prophet. (Oilyrags), Saturday, 27 September 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

You should recalculate your average weekly drinking, then. Something is off, because I believe that the reasoning behind my drunken correlation of 15-21 drinks per week to owning 3 or more Billy Joel albums is unimpeachable.

Z S, Saturday, 27 September 2008 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

I drink a quarter to half a bottle of wine a night, sometimes preceded by a gin and tonic or scotch. I've haven't gone out much the last three weekends. Drinking lots of gin has made Sunday mornings devastating.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 27 September 2008 18:11 (seventeen years ago)

I guess 15-21 is probably right. And I do have 2 billy joel cassettes lurking somewhere in my mother's basement, I think -- Storm Front and some sort of greatest hits. I loved Storm Front a bunch when I was like 12.

askance johnson, Saturday, 27 September 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

I drink constantly and i never know when i've had too much because i never remember anything towards the end of the night!
Good thing is i'm on tablets for sleep and feeling like shit etc and i can't really drink while having them.

not_goodwin, Saturday, 27 September 2008 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

prob 26-31 area, more or less relegated to weekends. some wine with dinner during the week, though.

i tried to quit drinking beer so i wouldn't get fat like my dad. but i can't help it. i love it so, so much.

the valves of houston (gbx), Saturday, 27 September 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

8-10 this week but probably 4-6 usually now. I've been cutting back because as I get older (mid-30s isn't that old rlly) the less I feel like drinking to excess and also like Will I don't want to get fat like my dad. I've probably lost 5 lbs in the last couple of months just from cutting my alcohol intake.

God, unless I find something to go with gin, I might slip into the Billy Joel bracket for this week.

Matt DC, Saturday, 27 September 2008 22:47 (seventeen years ago)

i work second shift and will fall asleep by the 2nd or 3rd beer. on days off i might drink 5 or 6, but i dont drink every day. i think that puts me in pinesol territory. so many empty calories. i need to take up smoking weed.

artdamages, Saturday, 27 September 2008 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

SSRIs reduce the effect of alcohol by at least 1/2. Kind of skews it for me.

Haha yes SSRIs but my other meds triple the effect so I am perhaps getting 1.5x more drunk?

I shouldn't be drinking even at all with what I take.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 28 September 2008 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

I drink approx 2 gallons MILK per week fwiw.

And I have to say the worst hangover-type thing I've had from a potable was when I drank half a gallon of milk in one sitting (~20 minutes). Has anyone here ever tried the "gallon challenge"? We'd do it at church camp all the time, like 13 years ago or more, so I was surprised to read this:

The MTV show "Jackass" first made the challenge famous on season two, episode five when three people drank three flavors of whole milk and then threw up rainbow-colored vomit. Word of the masochistic challenge spread and became a favorite among college students looking to have a disgustingly fun time.

Jackass doing church camp shit!

Abbott, Sunday, 28 September 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

(My drinking of the half-gallon milk was for practical purposes. I needed to clear room for a pasta salad I'd just made for my wedding, on its eve, in my sister-in-law's fridge. I'd asked her to buy me milk earlier so she bought this gallon of organic milk. It was taking up the only freeable space in the fridge. I didn't want it to go to waste, esp. considering how expensive that stuff is. Ad I didn't want to drink it warm.)

Abbott, Sunday, 28 September 2008 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

I used to drink several pints of milk a week. I reckon it's why I'm so tall actually. It's not genetics

I do know however that beer is pretty cool and I would drink all this glasses of milk. Whole milk, even, no lie.

SSRIs made me not feel drunk but do stupid drunk shit after not many drinks, or suddenly hit a messy ceiling of OH GODS I AM VERY MUCH TOO DRUNK without any warning before my usual "whoa, I'd better knock this off... (but, hmm, maybe just one more, right?)" point.

SSRIs + booze + weed = convinced I'm not getting any effect of last two (though I often have this with the smokes anyway), while actually becoming a jitter (ok, it was caffeinated booze I drank back then, this might explain that) of impulsive asshattery. Blackouts interspersed with embarrassing snapshot memories ensue, possible convinced-of-own-imminent-death panic breakdown later. Fun times!

Should probably not post that from work, but what the hell.

Actual drinkage: Billy Joel or thousands of dollars, not sure how the stuff I drink converts into units. Told the nurse this week: Pinesol. Ahem.

its SSRIs? i thought it was a fucked up liver - this happens to me too. cold sober to sloppy drunk in 15 minutes.

well, i guess the four + shots i start with might need to take a little blame.

Bright Future (sunny successor), Tuesday, 30 September 2008 13:25 (seventeen years ago)

I average around the Billy Joel mark or the money filling coffers levels. And I dunno that I've knowingly heard a Billy Joel song, let alone own any. So I guess I should vote for coffers? Which would only be honest because my average three months ago was more in the Connie Chung range.
