Have any of you made it back yet?

Tell me who was good and who caused you pain to help me plan my ATP next weekend.

Anna, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

This lot probably just played football all weekend wishing they were allowed to see Queen Ov The Damned.

Pete, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

huh while i was at the pubbe with you lot my brother phoned from ATP and deranged my boywiend by shouting "LISTEN TO THIS!" v drunkenly and pointing his phone in the direction of THE BREEDERS... i was most jealous and only the fact that i saw Yo La Tengo on Saturday night (playing to fishy films!!) made up for it, huh.

katie, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But then you could go home drunk and listen to the Breeders without the rest of the crap and the next morning see QUEEN OF THE DAMMED, I think you win!

Sarah, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Or what actually happened you came back to the Flat Of The Damned, listened to Kate Bush, Andrew WK and Carter for three hours whilst drinking VOdka with a hint of Cranberry.

Pete, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am trying to forget about the Carter. Vodka with a Cranberry Infusion is what I call it, it sounds poncier.

Sarah, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

URGGH made it back -- still conscious. Just.

Apologies to DV if I was incomprehensibly pissed on Sat. night. Good to see Lixi too, but no other ILE-ers were identifiable by me.

Cheap Trick, Mission of Burma and Low roXor.

Off to sleep...

alext, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

we had a party Saturday for Hank's b-day. I"m still suffering. We went to bed sometime after the sun came up but sleep escaped us. The band's gear is still set up in the big room and I'm sure we'll be finding empty beer bottles around the house for a week.

urrrgh.

Samantha, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yesterday's party --> out with the Canal St krewe to hear some DJs at the Tribeca Grand - nuff fashion in the house to choke a horse, but sound system shit and drinks waaaay out of our price range so it was Novocento for us and lemme tell you the DJs there are GRATE... place was small in a good way.... it felt like a Manhattan versh of Frank's in Ft Greene. i have no idea what ATP is but given the apparent lineup i would go in a shot.

Tracer Hand, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No partying this weekend, the previous one was active enough.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm back. I feel like I want to die. No, sorry, I actually feel like I have died. I'm about to go out to the pub. How ROCK am I? My bones and kidneys are telling me Not Very.

Bands? There were bands there? I saw the Oxes (on boxes with r0xeS), Danielson Famile, Low, Lonesome Organist, bit of Smog, and most importantly I saw CHEAP TRICK! Rargh! Yeah! I have two of their plectrums and everything! Woo! CHEAP TRICK!

And I got asked by a very spaced out Kim Deal at 7am if the beach was beautiful. Repeatedly. But yeah, CHEAP TRICK!

I'm very very sorry. I will behave myself now.

emil.y, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Emily, were you with the bloke I gave my Cheap Trick plectrum to? That was the nearest I got to meeting ILEers. I'm sorry I'm so crap.

I had a bit of a crappy time, depsite the best intentions of the lovely Ally C, Madchen, Cabbage, Jonnie5, Lixi, Pinefox and no doubt several others. I am a lightweight and I simply couldn't manage staying up late enough to have a properly good time.

HOWEVER - if it makes ILE feel any better, a team consisting of several of the Sinister team who MURDERED ILE on Primrose Hill (but also including your very own Jonnie) WON the ATP 5-a-side tournament. I played my usual physical spoiling game, and have the bruises to show for it. The boy Cook is more astonishing with every game - ph34r him when the rematch takes place...

Anna, it's such a shame you weren't there! Hope you have a great time next week - don't forget to take advantage of the Dancing Stage machine in the arcade, whence I lost my DDR virginity on saturday night :-)

p.s. Saw all or some of The Breeders (9 out of 10 for enjoyment), Mission of Burma (6/10), The Fall (5/10) and Cheap Trick - who, with apologies to the ILE rockist brigade, were FUCKING DREADFUL. Zero out of ten. Ahem :-)

Mark C, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark C = insane. Cheap Trick transcend mere notions of ATP attendance. They bring you the fun you desire, though you know it not.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

emily, tell me about lonesome organist, i want to know!

gareth, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Championes! Championes! Ole, Ole, Ole.

My legs hurt. Wire, The Breeders and Mission of Burma were fucking ROCK. Smog were a bit depressing. I got drunk. Some times. Played cricket on the beach and cheated like a bad ass. Martin smashed up the stumps and made me laugh.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw: The Shipping News (terrible post-Slint noodling), Low (intimate, magical, moving), The Lonesome Organist (he played guitar, drum kit, a steel drum and organ, of course), Plush (okish Big- Starish indie rock), Rachel's (utter shite - they seemed to spend an hour tuning up), Wire (slick, but dad-rock boring), GYBE (who were on awesome form), and, saving the best for last, Mission of Burma, who were simply magnificent. In fact I got so excited abt finally seeing Burma after all these year I went and stood right by their left-hand speaker stack, and my ears are still bloody ringing (Mission of Burma gave me tinnitus - now there's irony for ya...)

Andrew L, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tell me who was good and who caused you pain to help me plan my ATP next weekend.

Whatever you do Anna make sure you take next Tuesday off if you haven't booked it already. I feel dead.

Jonnie, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh dear, I've run out of holiday just by booking Friday and Monday.

Anna, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Smog - possibly the greatest single event by one person, evah. More to come on this later, I guess.

And the OXES, who indeed RoXXXes. My God, they RoXXXor.

More to come, I'm just back & deaf.

david h, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And the OXES, who indeed RoXXXes. My God, they RoXXXor.

Blub. Will have to go home and listen to the Oxes live set I have where they cover lots of grunge classicks in hi-speed drunken instrumental style. And I am soooo jealous of emil.y for having spaced-out conversations with Kim Deal. Find me a festival to go to this summer! Taking sides: Koneisto or Sonar?

r, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am still trying to find a use for ILEers being in close proximity to my house when I'm not there. Any ideas?

Graham, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Set some traps.

Ronan, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a smashed time. I don't think I'll ever get my brain back into it's right place. Still feeling totally spaced. Have learned many important lessons. Firstly, do not attempt trampolining with a hangover. Secondly, don't eat Budgens sushi. Thirdly, Take more than one pair of socks. Fourthly, do not drink and smoke so much that you cannot make your brain and mouth coordinate and end up sitting there unable to speak for hours. I went for a nap on Sunday evening, and woke groggily, with the fear, having realised my brain was never going to come back, sat up in bed and thought 'There is but one solution and that is to DRINK MORE'. On Saturday night I became convinced that my chalet mate was going to kill me in my sleep. Things went wrong in my brain. However, I still had a great time.

alix, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Drank. Felt like shit. Played football. Felt even more shit. Spent entire car journey back to Cabbage's hoping to die soon. Saw bits or most of Blonde Redhead (rubbish) The Breeders (rubbish) and Rachels (OK). Had a wonderful time, as usual.

Ally C, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Smog was the WORST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE.

alext, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and David Lovering was also rubbish. But I danced like a tosser to oh-so-trendy (TM Freaky Trigger) boots while Kim Deal was standing mere feet away.

alext, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Set some traps

But I'm NOT THERE. Well if you're very very bored on your trek to Budgens you can wave at my house, it's a terrace on the main road around Rye with an ginormous red model sailboat in the bay window.

Graham, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

alext::wasn't listening.

david h, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Listening

david h, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

r - could you give me a copy of that Oxes live set on Mini- disc/CDR/Tape? Please... I've e-mailed ye.

david h, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought Smog were a bit rub, too, actually, but I'm not sure if that was just because I was knackered. Lonesome Organist was great, although it would've been better if I could've seen more- entrancing anyway. Very spazrhythmic.

Can't remember who ILx I saw/spoke to, really. Vaguely remember not talking to Ally C in the bar because I was sleeping on people at the time (although previous Ally quote- "I like shooting girls, yes" still makes me laugh, ho ho).

Being poor, my plan for Autechre weekender is to become electro-god and play there myself. See you down the front.

emil.y, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Big Gay Mark, the person you gave the Cheap Trick plectrum I gave you was Steve from The Chemistry Experiment.

Kim Deal shoved me out of the way to get closer to the front while Cheap Trick were on. Big gravelly voiced rock chick Kelley's knitting needles were sticking out of her bag when I talked to her. Bless.

I liked The Breeders, Do Make Say Think, GYBE, Cheap Trick, The Fall & The Pinefox & Ally C duetting in chalet 166.
And sleeping with Mark C.

your dad making a 70's rock cunt of himself, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, your concept of taste is so meta-fucked up I can't even begin to argue with you.

Mark C, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Welcome to the world of Ned Raggett.

Though actually I'm sure you would find more crossover with him than you expect when it comes to something like Madder Rose (I'm guessing here).

You wanna try Glenn McDonald for some serious taste mindfuckery.

N., Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Frank's in Ft Greene" ---> been there lately? In with yesterday's parties for sure.

Mark C as Sinister hard-man: laffer! Did my elbows high presence not free you up only to rabbit-punch and kick ankles at Bowlie? What happened to the silky smooth midfield presence of 1999?

Benjamin, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no but I went to the new Bang the Party at Opaline in Manhattan and after stumping up 10 bucks had a great time.... talked to a woman named Denise (pronounced Den-ee-say) and remarked to her that the guy dancing with my girlfriend I recognized from Brooklyn - "he always hits on the white girls" - and she looks at me in shock. "that's M*ster R**k from the original Force Five. he's been my lover for like 10 years." i stumble and stutter and she busts into peals of laughter.... it's not the same but the dancefloor is smooth as glass and the conga players are a little more... shall we say... consistent...

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

lots of fun, yes yes.

Blonde Redhead, Cheap Trick, Low, Nina Nastasia, Danielson Familie: RoXoR.

Downstairs venue: SuXoR. they seemed to deliberately put overly popular bands on down there so no one would get to see them.

DV, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not sure, but I believe it's called 'getting there early'.

david h, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned, your concept of taste is so meta-fucked up I can't even begin to argue with you.

Woohoo! I win by default! What were we talking about? Oh right, Cheap Trick = gods, yes. *hums "Auf Wiedersehn"*

Welcome to the world of Ned Raggett.

A strange, alien landscape, filled with corpses of useless bands. Currently I am sprinkling the dirt over Andrew WK's ragged scraps of flesh.

Though actually I'm sure you would find more crossover with him than you expect when it comes to something like Madder Rose (I'm guessing here).

Interesting choice, and accurate.

You wanna try Glenn McDonald for some serious taste mindfuckery.

I bow before him. Did anyone else in the world say their favorite album of the previous year was Runrig's, for instance?

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned should curate ATP next year!

jel --, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, I'm all for it. It would begin with campfire singalongs by the Walkabouts, all while the bodies of, say, Gene are done to a turn.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The more I think about it, the more I want to see a Glenn McDonald curated ATP next year, just to see if the Bowlie veterans still go.

N., Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

**The Fall & The Pinefox & Ally C duetting in chalet 166**

Whoa! Rock and Roll!

There's something sinist-ah/in my chalet-ah

Dr. C, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not bloody going unless Nick Dastoor curates it. Though he'd have Chgeap Trick headlining every night just to spite me.

Madder Rose, eh? My word.

Mark C, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

To make up for coming back to the real world I have been pissed every night since, hic, I love you people.

chris, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah Mark C, so that was you who gave me the Cheap Trick plectrum... I apologise, I may have been a little drunk... Yes I was with Emily, cos she is Emily from The Chemistry Experiment. I almost feel famous now. I had a truly fantastic weekend, though it took me 2 days to recover from my hangover. Bands? Um... I only saw the danielson familie and cheap trick, both of whom were fantastic. But only a fool would go there for the bands. I spent all my time listening to Pontins FM in the toilets - ah Billy Ocean.

Steve.n., Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

How can more than two people duet?

alix, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe they took it in turns to sing together.

Aw, stop trying to spoil my joke, alix!

Dr. C, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve n. is so spot-on about the toilet music. Every time I left a crummy post-rock set and walked into the bogs I heard this interesting, sweet sound - and eventually realized it was either

a) Midge Ure: 'If I Was'

b) 'Night Shift'

c) Kirsty MacColl: 'A New England'

d) Black - their 80s hit, whatever it was, name slips my mind now

e) 'La Isla Bonita'

etc.

All this was made to seem extraordinarily classy and stimulating by the contrast with the ATP bands.

the pinefox, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. The P F having to go into the bog at ATP to get his hands on sthg stimulating .....

David, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do wonder about the future of ATP, every year there seem to be less girls and more beard-stroking blokes. That is a bad thing in my book tho obv some people may like that sort of thing. They need someone with a bit of SEX to curate it sometime soon or it's going to become a joke.

I vote for The Tindersticks.

Steve.n., Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I second that.

chris, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Momus your hour is upon you!

Tom, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve, do you know how to get in touch with Helen? I want to get hold of the curation line-ups that we did...

emil.y, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have the proper address at home, but I think its just helen@alltomorrowsparties.co.uk

David, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If the Tindersticks = sex then I'm joining a monastery.

Andrew L, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there an emoticon for sarcasm?

Steve.n., Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why yes there is! It's ~. Ask Northy!

N., Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh if only Belle and Sebastian wld curate another ATP ~.

Andrew L, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Black had many hits, but prob Wonderful Life.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I vaguely remember my only contact with Emily was making faces across a pub. What fun! However I do not remember this 'shooting girls' quote, although it sounds wonderful and I WANT to have said it? Was I drunk? Have I lost my mind? Or has Emily lost the plot?

Ally C, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, I remember you saying to another girl "Spread your legs, I want to kick you in the c*nt" I don't think you were drunk as it was too early, so I guess you had just lost your mind.

Maybe YOU had lost your mind.

David, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! post in haste, regret at leisure.

=Maybe YOU had lost *the plot*.

David, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I remember saying THAT, but that was induced by a 3 day hangover and me thinking it was funny. I remember your gasp, too.

Ally C, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
hey did any of you guys check out the guys playing outside the accomadation blocks on the first weekend 2 guitars and lots of tuperwear and pots and pans

kelly, Monday, 27 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm glad this thread has re-surfaced, as I've been meaning to ask Anna (or anyone else who went) what the second ATP weekend was like...
