Advice to everyone considering stopping drinking - don't bother! People still bring up tired old shit that happened years ago. "Remember smashing up my house/ molesting my mother-in-law/ vomiting at that christenting etc" - I mean, why does everyone have to live in the past all the time? AFAIC I've suffered enough, anyone who's still upset about something I did intoxicated in 1997 should just get a life, they're lucky I only pissed on the carpet! Any other ex-lushes who are disgusted and disappointed with other people's lack of selective amnesiac skills?

well as ever Dave i don't think i have quite as much RAGE about this as you do ;) but i was v v v V hungover on Sunday and said to RickyT "Urg i'll never touch a drop again, actually i will but you've got to say that when you've just puked up all yer stomach lining haven't you?" eight hours later i felt a lot better and had a small glass of wine to celebrate hurrah!

two years pass...
Whoah, an ancient Dave Q thread. Cool. But really, I really wanted to quote this from the NYTimes:

Alcohol appears to raise levels of H.D.L. cholesterol, the so-called "good cholesterol," and to lower levels of blood clotting agents like fibrinogen.

i have friendquaintences that still say "wow, i don't recognize you with your clothes on." because over a two week period there happened to be 4 parties that i ended up skinny dipping at. but other than that i've kept my clothes on at most of the appropriate instances. fuck 'em.

I think that I actually feel physically worse on a day to day basis since I quit drinking (it'll be seven years in April). Before, when I felt like shite, I could always say "I feel like shite, but that's because I drank too much last night". Now I have no excuse! My ill health is a result of over-eating and under-exercise. Although having said that, not having to apologise for throwing up in people's bathtubs, etc. slightly makes up for it.
