Get a "Times"
Snip the coupon.
You know it makes sense.
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 11:31 (sixteen years ago)
Oh, so they're not actually physical copies of the CDs in question?
F*ck that whole dealing with vouchers and coupons and stuff. If I have to go to a record shop or post in a voucher anyway to get one, I might as well buy one.
― Cat Concern Charity Shop (Masonic Boom), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:35 (sixteen years ago)
THERE ARE FREE COPIES OF "FOREVER CHANGES" BY LOVE ALL OVER THE INTERNETS TODAY AND EVERY DAY!!!
― shoving leopard (ledge), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:38 (sixteen years ago)
I'm gonna get one now.
― shoving leopard (ledge), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:39 (sixteen years ago)
I've already got a perfectly good copy thanks and I bet the Times version won't have "Your Mind And I Belong Together" as a bonus track either, not to mention copious sleevenotes and pictures.
Still I hope younger people do get it and that it changes their lives as a result.
― Checking My French, Checking-Checking My French (Marcello Carlin), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:39 (sixteen years ago)
Um, yes they are physical copies.
If you buy the times there, they don't (generally) ask for the coupon (they didn't for the DMail 80's set)
Oh, and Marc: Did you get the Sound of Music one from the MOS? You may be needing it for your LP project...
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 11:45 (sixteen years ago)
I've never heard of this band called Love in W.H. Smiths Today, is it one of them clever indie bands?
― Tuomas, Monday, 6 October 2008 11:47 (sixteen years ago)
I've got it already!
― The Plastic Fork (Pashmina), Monday, 6 October 2008 11:49 (sixteen years ago)
Tuomas & Costello

Who's on first?
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 11:51 (sixteen years ago)
What's all this coupons business then? Has anyone bothered to get this? Do you get a proper CD like you'd buy in HMV or is it just some card-sleeve shit? (Cos I don't have Closer on CD)
― I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Monday, 6 October 2008 15:25 (sixteen years ago)
It's a card sleeve. The CD inside seems to be decent quality though.
The coupon is in The Times, but it may be enough just to buy it at the same time, and go "Can I have the CD?" if they don't just give it to you straight.
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 15:31 (sixteen years ago)
They had the Doors' "Strange Days" with the Sunday edition. Cardboard sleeve as well, no coupon or anything - it was bundled with the magazine.
― Savannah Smiles, Monday, 6 October 2008 15:43 (sixteen years ago)
Yes, that was with all papers, not just sold in WH Smiths.
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 15:44 (sixteen years ago)
For non-ILM readers:
(Sun) The Doors - Strange Days(Mon) Love - Forever Changes(Tue) Joy Division - Closer(Wed) Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy(Thu) New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies(Fri) Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
I own this album 3 times but I got this to put in my dads car so there's something decent to listen to in future.
Will get the other albums too but I dunno if he would like Closer and Psychocandy...

Re. Sound Of Music: got it in the house already so no worries there, Mark.
Free with The Times next week: Tommy Steele's soundtrack to The Duke Wore Jeans, Down Drury Lane To Memory Lane by 101 Strings and the first three albums by the George Mitchell Minstrels. Now THAT would be of practical help to me!
― Checking My French, Checking-Checking My French (Marcello Carlin), Monday, 6 October 2008 15:49 (sixteen years ago)
I did see a copy of "at the drop of another hat" but that's not required, right?
― Mark G, Monday, 6 October 2008 16:16 (sixteen years ago)
No - only #12 in 1964.

Surprised someone hasn't given the F&S back catalogue a bit of a push following Armstrong and Miller, really.

"Hey, Mr. Murdoch... man... I don't understand your trip, man, you stay in one range of the guitar throughout the whole thing, man... 'cos, you know, you're the one who says you can blow in the studio, man... nobody to bug you... you've gotta blow, man... are you ready to take it from the top?"

i wonder how much money acts get for giving their album away free with a paper. didn't it work out better for prince to give his latest cd away than selling it?
― NI, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 12:40 (sixteen years ago)
There's only Johnny Echols and Michael Stuart left from Love!
