Powercell batteries are being sold twenty for four pound on the corner of TCR and Oxford Street. Powercell is not a company that is known for anything. Do you trust them? Of course not - these batteries will last about two minutes.

But when you get a TV with free batteries you have never heard of the company. So can we list some please.

Varta?

Pete, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Varta is a respectable brand, albeit undermarketed in the UK for obvious reasons.

battery-powered teevees -- surely this is a joke

Obvious reason?

Pete, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

TVs are no longer allowed to run off the mains in the UK, Tracer. It's something to do with lightning and earthing.

also watering and airing

I couldn't resist trying some Powercell batteries. They last maybe 10- 20% as long as Duracell. That actually makes them reasonable value, but when they don't power one day's normal walkman use, they're intolerably annoying.

My remote control has Maxell Super Power Ace batteries...I like the name!

I like to steal batteries from every remote control for any device in the house (it's only 4 or so really) and replace them with my old discman batteries. They tend to work for a few weeks.
