Ever lost something you shouldn't have?

I just lost a load of filing when we moved office over the weekend. Pisses me off because I spent hours doing it and it'll probably all get queried. Is probably at the bottom of a big, smelly skip. I am not going in it.

I put this under philosophy so take it where you will...

Bill, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have lost my letter from Steven Spielberg (actually the post lost it and I've got a photocopy) and a signed 'Revenge of the Jedi' photo from Anthony Daniels from before they changed the name of the film.

my sense of shame, about two weekends ago (as witnessed in other thread)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

A few too many things, of the intangible sort.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I lost my wallet once, but since I wasn't in El Segundo it wasn't the least bit cool. (It was actually at Clare College in Cambridge, which makes it even less cool.)

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

I got a couple tattoos by a semi-legendary figure in the industry, and for my second one I worked out a barter with him because his prices were sky-high. I was running a one-hour photo lab at the time, and he gave me a bag full of about 20 rolls of film to develop and print which would be part of his payment. I had to go into NYC to meet him, and afterwards partied at Squeezebox, film safe and sound at the coat check. Caught the first morning train back to CT, and fell asleep, bag of film by my side. Upon waking up, I found the bag of film gone!! I later found out some of the rolls contained the last pictures taken of his mother before she died. I called him to apologize, but needless to say I didn't persue any additional tattoo work with him.

Does this count as "lost"?

in response to the q: yep, my sense of self, my dignity, and my fucking red cardigan - grrr. I loved that cardigan like it was my own afterbirth.

I lost my wallet once, but since I wasn't in El Segundo it wasn't the least bit cool.

OK, so what's El Segundo really like?

I know Tribe aren't talking about El Segundo, the Los Angeles burb town just south of LAX airport... That place is just depressing track office space and dirt lots. No one would be proud to be caught just leisurely hanging out there.

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

But Brian, the reason that song is so brilliant is because the lyrics are all about how they got bored one day and drove across the country to a nowhere town for no discernable reason. I mean, the only thing they do in El Segundo is have lunch and lose Q-Tip's wallet, then they turn around and go back. CLASSIC!

Dan Perry, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

So, you're saying that NWA are all just trying to act like they're tough but they're really just fantasizing about a gangsta's lifestyle in Little Compton, Rhode Island?

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Brian, down deep, NWA are really white-collar workers masquerading as hard gangstas on their down time;>

As for loss, obvious physical stuff like the odd $5 bill. Then, there were those other times I lost more than that...

Nichole Graham, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You were born wearng acardigan?

mike hanle y, Monday, 22 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I lost my brand new bus pass and matric card while listening to 'Sheffield Sex City' on the way to the library. I was very pissed off

Leigh, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

On Sunday I woke up on a friend's sofa to find my trainers had gone missing. We searched the house for over half an hour, but they had vanished. Then the phone rang. It was another friend's younger sister who had drunkenly picked up my trainers despite my feet being three sizes smaller than hers.

Anna, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I lost the key to my work and was told if I were to lose it again I would lose my balls, so I made my choice.

Damian, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have lost so many things....probably because I'm scatterbrained and can't keep track of things. The upside to this though is that I usually find everything again eventually. I "found" $10 in the pocket of a shirt I hadn't worn in a while last week.

Nicole, Tuesday, 23 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I lost the quarter that Elvin Jones gave me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 10:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i found a copy of the elvis costello sunday times freebie lying unwanted on the bus on sunday and put it in my backpack - but i haven't seen it since!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 10:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Costello's career 1981-present in microcosm ha!

The bus symbolises his lost fanbase; the backpack the bandwagon on which he attempts to hitch a ride, sadly sans success.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

it was a 253!!

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

which BY SOME KIND OF EVIL COSMIC MAGIC corresponds exactly with the number of people who bought his last album!

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 25 September 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

so are there things that you are supposed to lose?

ron (ron), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Your virginity.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

You shdn't feel 'supposed' to lose yr virginity that is the CURSE of the emotionally fuxx0red up and the 'oh no I am preggers' moment dammit dammit all to hell I am going to become asexual (and therefore more people will WANT ME bwahaha it is a win lose situation)!!!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

How the hell do you become asexual? Oh, sorry, I am thinking androgyny. Whoops. Why would people want someone who was asexual anyway? I have lost a number of cds. They just went somewhere, inexplicably. I once lost a full urine sample bottle. Still haven't found it. Luckily this was in the old house. A lovely leaving present.

alix (alix), Wednesday, 25 September 2002 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

''which BY SOME KIND OF EVIL COSMIC MAGIC corresponds exactly with the number of people who bought his last album!''
