Now that I can again. No one on the network has any A Flock of Seagulls, but I maintain hope that there is something worth listening to somewhere in there.

Today's preferences: err I dunno maybe synth-pop or post-rock or IDM. So far I am just listening to "My Red-Hot Car" and cutsey French things. Why Can I Never Find Anything Out About Kidbuilders? If only I could listen to France Gall and squiggly Dick James-isms at the same time. With xylophones. And the guitar player from A Flock of Seagulls.

This is what the Tom's Top Ten section on NYLPM is for. At your own risk, of course.

I'd quite forgotten about that, Tom. Can I just mention how much it pleases me that a significant number of people will now Recognize that "Goodbye" is a completely brilliant single?

It is yeah - after I finish 102 I must reprint the 2nd birthday spesh with the Pinefox's great piece on that song.

The big thing not on that list of course is "Freak Like Me" by the Sugababes, which is probably single of the year, and - to my surprise - "On Top Of Your World" by Sahara Hotnights, which is the Strokes's noo-wave flash'n'dazzle with a glam-metal chorus and a lady singer.

can't help you on the synth-pop front mate, not my bag. on the idm /electronica front, mum, minotaur shock, animals on wheels and four tet produce some beautiful, delicate acoustic/electronic crossover type stuff.as for post rock, haven't come across much new stuff recently. you're probably into tortoise already (maybe its just me but i see them as ambassadors of the genre) but if you're not you should check them out. fridge also have some lovely stuff (their last album "happiness" especially. papa m / ariel m (same band, different moniker) are well worth checking out, as are international airport and yo la tengo but maybe i'm stumbling out of the genre at this stage and maybe you've heard of them all anyway and maybe i should learn to structure my sentences properly.....
