soooo fucking dud. would appreciate it if the gov't didn't waste money/resources on pointless displays of military pageantry that make me feel like I'm about to be strafed

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 9 October 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

loooove the blue angels. they're my one jingo mo
so want to go up in one. they're here at seafair and get down low over the water

h.i.m. (jergins), Thursday, 9 October 2008 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

they've been buzzing my office for nearly an hour now, singly and in tight formation. shakey mo otm to the degree that I've pictured SF lying in rubble about 8 times now, but still totally classic.

my sweet coconut (rogermexico.), Thursday, 9 October 2008 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

these guys are the true heroes of our military.

Navey Seals synch swim would be cheaper and less intimidating

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 9 October 2008 20:54 (seventeen years ago)

It's truly amazing to watch but it is rather a waste. I'm not scared of them strafing me but if something were to go wrong over the City it would be disastrous.

Michael White, Thursday, 9 October 2008 20:58 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sorry I can't see them without thinking "wow we waste a lot of money on the fucking military"

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:00 (seventeen years ago)

id rather spend our defense budget on shit as cool as the blue angels than on corny-ass ideas like the iraq war

max, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:03 (seventeen years ago)

except we currently do both. huzzah!

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

I mean, frankly, regradless of what you think of our involvement in Iraq or Afghanistan, wouldn't you rather that money went to buying soldiers body armor or something? Would Navy recruiting really suffer that much if we scaled the BA back during wartime?

Michael White, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:08 (seventeen years ago)

christ spend it on VA hospitals and PTSD treatment

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:10 (seventeen years ago)

Speaking of which, imagine what the sound of these jets does to some vets.

Michael White, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:13 (seventeen years ago)

They're probably just getting ready for when Pesident Bush declares martial law. I believe they already have Shakey's house pre-programmed in their missile guidance systems.

Michael White, Thursday, 9 October 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Voting classic with Shasta here, though shouldn't the poll be Blue Angels vs Thunderbirds vs Snowbirds vs Red Arrows?

Anyway, classic - except the Thunderbirds' F-16s can do 9g turns the BA's F-18s can't

they fly around Angel Island, right? I used to see them from the roof in Capitol Hill during Seafair.

gabbneb, Friday, 10 October 2008 01:51 (seventeen years ago)

Timi & Shaky: would you rather the money for the blue angels go towards more bombs and troops in i-rack? it's not like disbanding the blue angels is going to lower your taxes, or the portion of the budget given to the military. i'd rather have plans wowing little kids than blowing shit up. srsly.

also, air shows have good food (or at least they did when i was 7.)
if you hate the blue angels, you hate america and should just fucking leave.

ian, Friday, 10 October 2008 02:03 (seventeen years ago)

I think about the vast waste of money all the time, not just when I'm doing those two things. I do watch the news and hate on fun a lot, though.

mccain's friends (jeff), Friday, 10 October 2008 18:14 (seventeen years ago)

they are driving me particularly crazy today for some reason. maybe it's because they've been going at it all week and i'm finally fatigued. or maybe it's because i had an idea for a track and gave up a few minutes after starting because my speakers can't compete. plus they scare my kittens.

what they do is pretty cool, but i wish they didn't have to fly right over SF. fuck fleet week.

I saw three or four Blue Angels shows growing up and I thought they were less exciting than the annual fourth of July parade and the thing in Blackfoot, Idaho where a helicopter dropped ping-pong balls all over town, and some of the ping-pong balls had prizes, and I won one of the prizes which was to fly in the fucking ping-pong ball helicopter and drop fucking ping-pong balls all over Blackfoot even though I was a fricking shy kid alone in a helicopter with STRANGER DANGER plus I won a cool lollipop.

Those planes are boring to prepubescent me.

our country is at war (and not faring very well) so why do we reserve our top fighter pilots for choreographed air stunts/war porn rather than serving and defending our country? do the navy SEALS put on any synchronized swimming performances?
