Yup..
Big News here in Austria- just saw the news and dashed downstairs to wake my gf up, who jumped out of bed screaming "Yes!".
Considering his political comeback two weeks ago in the National Elections where the two far-right parties scored almost the same vote as the socialist party - it will be interesting what happens now when the try to form a government - as no-one else in his party will be able to step into his shoes.
It will also be interesting how long it will take for all the sex scandal stories to appear (It's fairly well known in media circles that although married, Haider had a healthy interest in younger men).

I wonder if some right-wing conspiracy theorists will think he was murdered by the leftists, like Pim Fortuyn in Holland?
(haha, x-post)

Haider was speeding at twice limitThe Associated PressVIENNA, Austria: Austrian investigators say far-right politician Joerg Haider was speeding at more than twice the posted limit before the car crash in which he died.Police reconstructing the accident in southern Austria say the speedometer in the wreckage of Haider's Volkswagen sedan was stuck at 142 kilometers per hour (88 miles per hour). The speed limit on the stretch of road where he died was just 70 kph (43 mph).Investigators released their preliminary findings Sunday, a day after the 58-year-old governor of Carinthia province and leader of the rightist Alliance for the Future of Austria was killed.Prosecutor Gottfried Kranz said the speed appeared to be the main factor in the deadly crash.

Conspiracy theories have started, according to Der Standard.
I would expect a BZÖ/FPÖ fusion really really soon.
― Three Word Username, Sunday, 12 October 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)
I think this too, but my gf rules out any official fusion between the two parties - due to the amount of funding they would lose as one part as opposed to two....

It was obvious to most people who saw that...
