Anyone have the Blind (Henry Sanchez, I think it was) deck with The Terminator graphic printed on, but the one where they printed the metal skeleton and then Arnold's face over it, so when the paint came off you'd see the print underneath.

I sold my first deck for $5 (I had no use for it then, and was a very naive 13 year old). It would be celebrating it's 8th birthday in like 5 weeks (whatever the teardrop text-emoticon is).

First of all, I'd like to say that I'm totally stoked that this thread is about vintage sk8 decks and not something about some crap indie band that was supposed to be posted on ILM. Bitchin!
OK, so my first few decks were pretty cool:
http://www.iceice.co.uk/chall5/Keith_Meek_Slasher.jpg
http://www.hbeasyrider.com/catalog/images/VDRSRED-2.jpg
http://skateandannoy.com/features/ebay/2007/ebay056/images-big/roskopp767.jpg
But H-Street decks became far and away my favorites of that era. I had several, but this was my first (still have it btw):
I'm scared to continue posting images of classic 1980's decks b/c those were the halcyon days for sk8 graphics IMO & I could be at this all night.

This was supposed to appear after the line about H-Street:

― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 02:19 (seventeen years ago)
I can't believe how much some of these go for on ebay now. Mine were all beat up and scarred anyway.
My first three decks:

I think the O'brien was the 3rd, not positive. I used to write what number deck I was riding under the back trucks when I set them up - the last one from 1997 is still in my garage, I think it was #25.

Not enough fingerflips in Sk8ing these days. I also mourn the passing of the Saran Wrap, the no-comply, the boneless, and the shin-ha ha.
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 03:52 (seventeen years ago)
I, for one, do more no comply's (ok, 180 no complys) than kickflips.
(How the hell are there so many people with so many old (not to mention pretty $$$) decks, here!?!?!)

many xposts to kingkongvsgodzilla: I imagine you might be a bit younger than me, but the "future primitive" graphic is by far the definitive Lance Mountain deck:

mehlt, we do not currently own these decks (actually I do have the D. Way and the Ripsaw from upthread but they are covered in stickers and bashed to hell), we are just posting pix from the internets. But if I had the $$$, I'd totally start collecting vintage mint decks as a hobby.
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)
My Gator wasn't a mini though. Black and neon green, black Gullwings, white 92a Slimeballs.
My cousin had about three of four of those Alva Bill Danforths - I never liked the Alvas from that era because they had the crazy concave tails.
I was way into Schmitt Stix and then New Deal when they first started out - I had a couple of Steve Douglass decks, the Danny Sargent, and a couple of Andy Howells. One of the Howells is still in my parent's basement, I think. I can't find a picture online, dammit.
And yes, I HAD all these, once upon a time, when they were new. I rode and broke and threw them all away fifteen years ago. Actually we used to throw them off the bridge in town, trying to get them to land on the wooden pilings in the middle of the canal.

One time we ran into a couple of little dirtbag kids who were riding one of our old decks - they took a raft out to the piling to salvage the old decks.

Alva Bill Danforths - Bill lived in Grosse Point MI (along with fellow Alva rider Bill Toco). I have a brother-in-law that lived in his neighborhood and met this kid who took me to Bills' to meet them and ride their half-pipe. I was 11 at the time and way to psyched out by the awesomeness of the situation to actually speak to them.

Is Gator out of jail yet? - I believe the dude was convicted of first-degree murder, in which case he will most likely be locked up 4ever.

I'd like to add to this list of unfortunately forgotten tricks the gay twist, the Christ air & the rocket air. Does anyone still do that shit?
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 04:34 (seventeen years ago)
When I got into skating and saw the first couple of Bones Brigade videos, they were alright and all but didn't really do a whole lot for me. I lived in cold-ass middle of nowhere and there for sure weren't any pools or half pipes around me.
But then Public Domain came out and BLEW MY MIND:
The Natas part in Streets of Fire was probably a close second:

It's all about The Search for Animal Chin - "Skate to Create!"
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 05:53 (seventeen years ago)
Natas is IN JAIL. For SKATING. Which is ironic, see, b/c "Skateboarding is not a Crime." It's too bad younger generations didn't pick up the spinning-on-top-of-a-fire-hydrant trick. That shit was fucking classic.

One more post before I go nite-nite: Do u guys remembor those decks with the crazy wave-shape (almost spiked) edges? I can't recall if they were Dogtown or Zorlac decks (maybe something else, even). Someone that knows should post a JPEG.
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 06:38 (seventeen years ago)
I could watch old skate videos all day.
― circa1916, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 09:47 (seventeen years ago)
THIS WAS MY DECK!!! corey o'brien! except i had it in purple!
my avante-garde move was to cover the ENTIRE TOP SURFACE with griptape. i think everyone does this now. they might have back then, too, but in knoxville they didn't.
the advent of the no-comply officially marked the end of my skateboarding career. it's a deceptively simple, elegant, beautiful move. i couldn't do it and so rather than practice until i could, quit :/

the epic vert battles with tony hawk at del mar skate ranch and pipeline!
― Gavin "Spinner" Mason (carne asada), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 15:57 (seventeen years ago)
Waitaminute - where might one find this Hosoi doc? Can it be downloaded? I remember CH winning a highest-air vert contest back in the day. I totally demolished everybody else with a tweaked out method at about 10 or 11 feet (measured against a giant yardstick mounted to the back of the half pipe). Dude was my hero after that, along with Natas when he kept setting high ollie records. This kind of thing was pretty exciting at the time b/c it was way before the Xgames were on TV every 10 minutes, skateboarding had become a respectable passtime, and crazy mf's started doing shit like this:
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 22:15 (seventeen years ago)
"He demolished everybody else", i meant to say. I may have beaten Hosoi in a contest once or twice while daydreaming, though.
― Pillbox, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 22:18 (seventeen years ago)
i caught it on one of those obscure HBO channels.
