Pro:* Pretty sensible views on racism in football* Best British defender of the past 20 years* Slightly less annoying version of Phil Neville* May end up as the first "great" black British manager
Anti* Not too keen on the gays* Was going to judge a "rap idol" TV show once* YOU GOT MERK'D BRUV* Turns his phone off when shopping for linen

He spent the first half of his career being over-rated, then a couple of season under-rated, and is now over-rated again (Lampard looks to be following a similar trajectory).
He's a decent player, but he's no Sol Campbell.
Other consKicks female stewardsKicks balls in fans facesAlmost certainly involved in some sort of roasting scandal in his U21 days if I was the sort of person who remembered that type of thingRuns off pitch shouting obscenities at the ref rather than hang around for a second yellowShould have been sent off in Champions League final for two cynical fouls (not that I'm bitter or anything)
― Pete W, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 11:20 (seventeen years ago)
He'd probably be a great player if he just risked getting booked a little more in his career. It's all very well being a fair-minded player, but a defenders job is to get stuck-in when it matters for the sake of the team. I

Record label
In 2005, Ferdinand, along with an old school friend, created record label White Chalk Music.[20] To date, there are two artists signed to the label; Melody Johnston and Nia Jai, the latter being due to release an album on 6 October which features Ferdinand rapping.

john terry has similar wonderful qualities.
I saw a recent photo of him in which he looked green and toothy, clearly the Prince of the Lizard Race come calling, and on that basis I recommend caution.

― Carrie Bradshaw Layfield (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:39 (seventeen years ago)
So the answer is probably Shearer
rooney is up there, but ferdinand is the only world-XI player
wrong, i started in about 1998-9 and shearer wasn't rly doing it for england then
― 100 tons of hardrofl beyond zings (Just got offed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:40 (seventeen years ago)
in before "scholes" btw
― 100 tons of hardrofl beyond zings (Just got offed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:44 (seventeen years ago)
actually scholes more or less = ferdinand, altho he was also occasionally a big fouling liability
If you're going from 1998-99 and on England form alone the answer is probably Owen.

Okay, that makes more sense.
Been a pretty dismal decade I guess.
Sheringham was still knocking around then. And I'd take Campbell over Ferdinand any day.I don't think Ferdinand is world XI. Carvalho and Vidic both better, for starters.

ferdinand is at least as good a defender, and he also has about 50x the ball skills and passing of the metallic serbian rapist
― 100 tons of hardrofl beyond zings (Just got offed), Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:52 (seventeen years ago)
Ferdinand's ball skills are the most over-rated part of his game. His passing is average - certainly no better that Terry's - and he rarely looks comfortable carrying the ball any distance. Tends to play it long for England a hell of a lot.
― Pete W, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:54 (seventeen years ago)

― Pete W, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)

― Matt DC, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 14:56 (seventeen years ago)

I *THINK* Crouch is the most attractive when stood next to the rest of the current England squad (I do not think Beckham is aging very well and thought he was better-looking when he was younger and more fresh-faced). Is that better? Lampard probably third, unless Gareth Barry's Tesco Value Ben Affleck thing does it for you (it doesn't for me)
― ailsa, Wednesday, 15 October 2008 16:25 (seventeen years ago)
Barry is better than most in the squad. But yes, having been reminded of him above, I'm gonna go for ... Stevie G!!
He was actually voted most attractive player by Gay Times or Pink News or Queenie Express or Daily Queerograph or Weekly Attitude or whoever it was a few years ago. I think they said they liked his rear.

In short, black citizens' views on racism take precedence over that of a "white pensioner"? This kind of melanine-based hierarchy (with a little bit of social contempt towards the elderly) is the definition of racism. Glad to see football365 joining the sanctimonious masses that do not wish to go beyond discrimination but want to see the tables turned.
