This was provoked by watching Graham Taylor and others on F(ootball) F(ocu)s bemoaning the fact that Capello wasn't building the England team around "England's best player", Stevie G. I think at one stage Taylor said something like, "It's like he's building the team round Wayne Rooney instead"... duh!

i haven't seen many england games lately, so i don't know how rooney's doing for them, tbh. but he's certainly over-rated in england.

can't be arsed to check but i'm sure zidane said something more along the lines of gerrard being TBPITW in terms of leadership and effect on team and stuff, and in comparison to kaka and ronaldo (who are more like outstanding cogs in a machine) that's fair enuff imo. you could say "oh well that's cos liverpool arent as well balanced as those teams therfore overreliant" but then messi is also gerrard-esque.
