ducklingmonster, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

just sing normally but thump yr chest as you do so!

katie, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Digitech Talkbox, not a real vocoder but used on cher's Believe and a whole stack of boy band and r and b smashes.

Prosoniq Orange Vocoder VST plugin for the computer

Or best of all build one from a kit They also do some good kit synths, preamps and a theramin.

Hah! I just bought TRANS by Neil Young the other day for 1$. I like it. I also saw the casio vocoder on ebay too. I also want a bass synthesizer

mike hanle y, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

HOWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM!

Momus, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What about those crappy oversized plastic microphones for kids that are supposed to make you sound all robotic? Weren't they gr...er...rubbish?

emil.y, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've never heard Neil Young's Trans but I've just remembered I had a dream about it a couple of weeks ago. It was a work of staggering genius. Actually, I may be confusing my dreamlife with an ILM post.

I also with I could use that singing Midi program but Midi make me go flaccid. A combo of vocoder and Vocal Writer would be good. I want to know what happens if you use a guitar instead of a synth with the vocoder.

mike hanle y, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So Mike, did you make Vocal Writer sing?

Momus, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Here 's one that will talk what you type from AnalogX - PC only

WARNING TO ED: DO NOT EVER MAKE YOUR OWN THEREMIN.

I played a homemade theremin once and (a) my hands went completely numb for three whole days, plus (b) my fingers twitched really creepily for even longer. Thus I have concluded that theremin- building is best left to experts.

Bitsuh, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm undecided about Trans...

jel --, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

NMike, many multi-fx units containa vocoder effect - usually they have the 2 stereo inputs configured as carrier input and modulator input. The budget Digitech s100 and s200 have this effect, and my Zoom 1201 also has it. The Zoom unit works *really* well. Any ov thee above units should be stupidly cheap used, and natch, they also do other fx as well.

Norman Phay, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

momus- no I never did. I got discouraged when I realised I would have to make it in midi. I don't know what I was expecting. I guess I had hoped it was like an instrument you coudl play. But, I guess it woudl just have too many keys.

mike hanle y, Thursday, 25 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

hey, Mike, I just started a Trans thread over in ILM. Please come over and share yer thoughts!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Friday, 26 April 2002 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

sing in the bathwater or when gargling.
be sure to follow these instructions.

will mike hanle y ever visit dunedin? perhaps he should, but i'd be a bit scared of him.
