Depends,
1st week after payday, 7
2nd week after payday, 5
3rd week after payday, 3
4th week after payday, 1

and so on...

Generally one, maybe two nights a week. Unless there's a rash of good gigs on or something. I tend to feel oversocialised and tense and cranky if I go out too much so I prefer to stay home more than I often get to.

about 4. it's usually friday and saturday, a weeknight gig, and drinks or something at least other night of the week.

Jordan, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)

is it a british thing to call shows that you are going to "gigs"? i just realized that i use that word when i'm talking about a performance that i'm giving, but never for a show i'm going to.

Jordan, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:32 (seventeen years ago)

Well, 1) I am a musician so it might just be leakage. 2) actually, if someone said they were going to a "show" that could really mean anything from the theatre to a musical to a dinner-dance review. Gig is much more specific that I mean a rock band.

But I think it is common British usage? I'm probably the wrong person to ask.

I sometimes say concert. I don't like saying 'gig', mainly because I think it's an ugly sounding word.

Autobot Lover (jel --), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I was going to say that - "concert" would be much more common than "show".

I don't think gig is ugly, though, I think it's a pretty word. Reminds me of horses for some reason. And giggles, which are definitely pretty.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

definitely much more commonly used in UK

Sir, are you calling 911 to complain about traffic? (G00blar), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

pre-30's answer: 3-4; post: 1-2.

concert seems too stiff for something not in an auditorium of some kind.

Jordan, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

3-4 nights out usually. 5 on a big week.

Matt DC, Monday, 27 October 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not going mad. There is a link between gigs and horses.

I don't have a problem with giggles, strangely.

Autobot Lover (jel --), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

Many is the time I've been at a concert wishing I had a seat, and hoping it would finish by half 10, or earlier.

Going out = a major failing in my life. Day time is fine though, if everything went on during the day, that'd be great for me.

Autobot Lover (jel --), Monday, 27 October 2008 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

One sure sign of getting older is that the presence of seats at a concert is reassuring, not annoying and restrictive.

Actually, that's where I'd draw the etymological difference between a gig and a concert. A gig is standing, a concert has seats.

once a week, innit? maybe a little more on average, but i don't want to think about the damage that's doing to my already fucked-up bank balance.
