Who here has met other ILM/ILE posters in Real Life?

So, how many of you ker-razy folks here have actually had the pleasure(?) of meeting each other face to face? I'm probably at least one continent away from pretty much all of you guys.

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who have I met? Over in the US, I've met Ned Raggett (and the incredibly famous Chris Barrus, though he doesn't really post here). I've met a lot more of the UK-side people, through Strange Fruit. Obviously, Paul (duh) and also RickyT, and I've run into The Pinefox and Stevie T at various incredibly drunken events. (way to annoy the above: drunkenly exclaim "You're Stevie Trousers! Wow!" Repeat about 20 times until your even drunken boyfriend drags you to the cab.) I don't think I've met Tom yet... we've made arrangements before, but they've invariably fallen through.

The big meet-up bonanza will start in August once Ned gets here... This is the main reason that The Lollies tour- so I can get to meet all my friends from online!

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I had a very lovely dinner indeed with Fred and Ally. At some point this weekend I will probably meet Otis.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Met: Alex T, Pete, Emma, Tanya, Mike J, Stevie T, Tim H, Carsmile Steve, Pinefox, Madchen, Ally C, MJ Hibbett, Gareth, DG, Robin, DJ Martian, K-Reg. And Ned of course. Have I forgotten anyone...? I have probably met more of you at gigs etc. but I don't know for sure. The one person I know I've not met yet which it's very odd that I've not is Nick Dastoor.

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Andrew L, too. And I've seen Momus around and about.

Tom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've met Ned, but that's about it due to my "midwestern peasant" status.

Nicole, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fred (obviously), Otis, Ian White, Dan Perry, Tracer Hand, Dave M, Mike Daddino, Jimmy the Mod, Sterling Clover, Sundar, BNW. Oh my god I feel like I'm leaving someone out and they're going to be horribly offended, shit.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've not met anyone yet.

james e l, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I, too, am meet-less. (Though I did just set up shop here only a couple o' weeks ago. I'm fast, but not THAT fast.)

David Raposa, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I just came her recently due to a Momus link, so I've met nuch. But I wanna be loved. Love me, gentle poster!

-- Mike Hanley, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll love you, Mikey.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wanna meet Jonathan, because he's so gorgeous.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You could at least spell my name right, Ally. Pay for my air fare and I'll be over in a shot.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've met Paul and Kate via SF, and got introduced to Stevie Trousers on Saturday. I have a horrible feeling I met Carsmilesteve at ATP 2000 and made a complete arse of myself in front of him. That's it. I think.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Psh, I don't want to meet anyone who picks over my typos, forget about it.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Everybody spells my name wrong so it gets a little annoying. I won't hold it against you, dear.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I can understand it, loads of people somehow spell my name wrong, and hello, it's 4 letters. I was just teasing you, that extra h is a bit hard to remember to put in though.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey, extraneous letters in names are WELL sexy. Especially H's. Just look at Mr. Thom Yhorke. If Ally thinks Jhohnhathan is hot, that means he looks like Richey Manic. Snorrrrre. I'm more curious about Gareth and his "cat eyes" though the "looking like Jarvis" thing worries me. ;-)

masonic boom, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My Dad wanted the extra 'h' putting in because he didn't want my name shortened to 'Jon'. An Americanisation, he said. He also said it was a ponce's name. Silly man.

What about my air fare, then?

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

In my mind, JoHnathan is Richey Manic. He should totally come to Boston with me and Stephanie, even though I'm certain someone is going to die at the Boston meet. I can't afford airfare though, Johnathan. I keep spending my money on new clothes as opposed to washing my old ones. I'm just not going to be able to afford it.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Met: Alex T, Pete, Emma, Tanya, Mike J, Stevie T, Tom, Carsmile Steve, Pinefox, Madchen, Ally C, Ned, Gareth, DG, Robin, DJ Martian, K-Reg, plus a few one-time-only posters like Kevan and Honey. And Nick Dastoor, of course.

Thanks Tom.

Tim, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Damn, Ally. My sister lived in Boston for a year, too.

Actually, I'm more in the Jude Law mould than Richey Manic. As pretty as Richey though.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

She should pay for your airfare! That's a plan.

Anyhow, Jude Law mold is nearly as good, so I'll let that slide. I mean, if you put on eyeliner, it's probably the same thing as Richey, practically sort of, if I take off my glasses. That'd be mega awesome.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My sister hates me. We'll have to forget that one.

You'll finder me even HOTTER than Richey. I promise.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll believe THAT when I see it. Which means you'll have to find some way to come to Boston otherwise I'll never believe you, ha.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, Ally. As long as your Fred isn't the jealous type.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Psh, what does he have to be jealous about? I'm celibate anyhow.

And if anyone emails me "Aye right" I'm kicking them in the balls.

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Psh, see you in a few weeks, hun.

Johnathan, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This thread has quickly devolved, jeez. I still won't believe this until I see it, so there.

So yeah, who in this bitch lives in Boston?

Ally, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Met: Tom, Tim H, DG, Gareth, K-reg, DJ Martian, Pete, Stevie T, Mike J, Ned, Momus, Kevan Cooke (who has indeed only posted once), David Huntsman and, for about 10 seconds, Richard Tunnicliffe. I *think* that's it.

Robin Carmody, Thursday, 14 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally, you forgot Paul the Lurker.

Otis Wheeler, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not only have you met me, Tom, but you regularly kip on my sofa and drink my tea. Mi casa es su casa.

And I have the misfortune of living with Pete. Mind you he is never in so I don't meet him very often.

Emma, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hmm - I fear my list may look awfully similar to Tom's. Emma o'course - though I never see her cos I am never in. Tom, Tim (the finest man you can meet by web) Stevie T, Robin, Ned and some of you others I don't like to mention by name because I don't know them. Oh, and Tanya has often been known to drink every penny I earn.

Pete, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Gareth, but I knew him before this, does that count?

Ed Lynch-Bell, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I forgot Emma, too, but that's only because I copied Tom's list. Bad Tom.

Mark Morris also, but then I hardly ever see him because I'm hardly ever out.

Tim, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oooh! And possibly Paul Strange Fruit, if he is Clipboard Boy. If Clipboard Boy is another of the Srtange Fruit cabal, then please disregard this posting.

Tim, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Depends which SF you went to. At the last SF, *I* was clipboard girl! Hooray! If you went prior to March 2001, it would have been a character named Melville, who was a different kettle of fish entirely.

masonic boom, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

met: tom ewing, tim hopkins, DG, robin carmody, K-reg, dj martian, ed lynch-bell and ambrose. and, i think, stevie t?

gareth, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kate, clipboard boy is always clipboard boy, regardless of gender. I was at the Clientele / Trembling Blue Stars 'show' so perhaps there were kettles of fish involved. Actually, I think there were probably big festering kettles of fish involved, and I vowed never to darken the doors of that particularly vile venue again, a vow which has made my life a better place.

The Clientele were good though, from what I could hear.

Tim, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

*surfaces* I've met all of you except those I haven't met yet. Soon. *descends*

Ned Raggett, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, are you riding some slow-motion pogo stick or something?

DG, Friday, 15 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hopkins, "clipboard boy" is no longer part of the SF gang, although i did pass him in the street the other day...

So, I've met Tom, Tim H, Pinefox, Stevie T, MJ Hibbert, Emma, Pete, Paul, Kate (although she was v v drunk at the time), Dastoor (who isn't as hard in real life), Richard apparently, although the camber haze has descended over that for me as well, Madchen, Cooky, and some mad drunken bird who said she recognised me from here and then called me a geek, but who's name escapes me, she might be something to do with the chemistry experiment...

carsmilesteve, Saturday, 16 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've met everyone who says they've met me.

JM, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom, I have met you, albeit only for about ten seconds. Shortly after you met Stevie T sometime last year he introduced us at the Notting Hill Arts Club.
The only people I know in real life who regularly post here are those I originally met through the Belle & Sebastian list:

Michael Jones, Tim Hopkins, Stevie T, madcheninuniform, Carsmile Steve, the Pinefox and Ally C and Starry vs the Baddies Sarah (I suppose she's not that regular).

Nick, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, and I saw Kate play in the Lollies once.

Nick, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Huzzah! I am the most-met person on ILE! And *still* no one fancies me. Maybe this is God's way of telling me to spend less time in la belle monde du indie. (I've met Kate, Richard, the Sinister Kids, Tom, Pete, Magnus, Robin, DG, Gareth, K-reg, Momus a-and Simon Reynolds!)

stevie t, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You've met Ned as well. I know cos I was there.

Robin Carmody, Monday, 18 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, dammit. How DARE you forget me, Stevie.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i believe i have also met magnus

gareth, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Met: Kate 2 years ago at Reading. (And since then we seem to invariably end up on the same message boards, for some reason). I dare say I have seen others at random gigs without realising.

Bill

Bill, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ally C, Nick Dastoor, Clipboard Boy, Clipboard Girl, the Pinefox, Stevie T, Tom, Mike J, Tim H, Carsmile Steve, Kevan, Honey. None because of ILM except maybe Tom but I probably would have seen him about anyway.

Madchen, Tuesday, 19 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Whoa, more people have met me than I've met, which scares me! OK, I now know I have met Nick because he ended up putting his name on one of the various clipboards, but I have no memory of the event. And I wasn't even drunk! I *do* however, remember meeting Bill at Reading. He had a cool shirt on, which I am unlikely to forget. :-)

masonic boom, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I've met a fair few of you too, obviously I don't deserve a mention though....sniff

I haven't met Tom yet though, oddly though we have been in the same places a few times, that'll change tomorrow night in Oxford though obviously.

cabbage, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That shirt now has a massive hole in it because my mum decided to iron it...but it could be worn as a post-ironic-ironic statment, I suppose.

Bill

Bill, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Alright, I'll own up. I've met Cabbage.

Madchen, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Wait! I've met Cabbage! It just took me a while to associate "Cabbage" with "Chris".

Then again, what do I know? I Clipboard Girl-ed Mark, and I've supposedly met him about 4 times now, albeit while completely pissed. No memory for faces, me. Who is this red-headed boy I wake up with every morning, anyway? I don't know anyone named "Paul"... :-)

masonic boom, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I really must start going by just the one name to prevent confusion I suppose.

See quite a few of you later, too.

cabbage, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Update! Nick Dastoor for certain this time, Paul Strange Fruit and Kate St C. And I think I forgot to mention Marianna before. All lovely. Apologies for having to dash off so quickly on Friday - all the more reason to come to CLUB SUSSED on THURSDAY 5th JULY.

Tom, Sunday, 1 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes! I finally met Tom this weekend, at B&S. I apologise profusely for being very drunk and very scary, but hey, that's the full Kate Experience, drunken squealing and all. Also met Carsmile Steve properly (read: somewhat soberly) and Sarah Clark. Wow! That's what you get for being Moneygrab Girl at SF. Yes, Sussed this Thursday. No doctors to keep me away so me (and hopefully Paul) will be there. Indeed.

masonic boom, Sunday, 1 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Christicle! The 5th is Thursday, isn't it? Eek! I'd better get organising...is there to be a drink first, like last time?

DG, Sunday, 1 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't know what Stevie T means about no-one fancying him. I don't understand that at all.

Thread that must not be started: who on ILM / ILE do you least want to meet?

the pinefox, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Plus: has anyone ever met Mark S? I'm not sure that I would like to. He is probably too knowledgeable, witty and wide-ranging for me.

the pinefox, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't think Mark S is real. I think he's really just a manifestation of our collected knowledge and wisdom, rather like DP is a manifestation of our collected bad-tempered trainspottery. Hence, how Mark could beat DP so easily...

Who do I *least* want to meet? Oh g'wan take a guess.

masonic boom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But Kate, I know he'd love to meet you! And maybe he could introduce you to his great friend Alan McGee and you could get signed to Poptones. Talk about a dream fufilled!

I keep thinking Mark S. must look like pikachu, that's the mental image that comes up when I think of him. A total compliment, btw.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I imagine Mark S as thin, elegant, wry, perhaps somewhat camp, wears black, hair is blonde and mostly shaved off.

the pinefox, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

[...] rather like DP is a manifestation of our collected bad- tempered trainspottery [...]

I was about to get all excited about this description, but then I realized that you weren't talking about me. I want to be the manifestation of our collected bad- tempered trainspottery more than I want to be Jackie Chan. Chalk up another one to the hated common initials; if you want me, I'll be sulking in the "I hate my name" thread.

Dan Perry, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I imagine Mark S as thin, elegant, wry, perhaps somewhat camp, wears black, hair is blonde and mostly shaved off.

So Mark, all along, has really been... MOMUS?!?!?

masonic boom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

We are only a short distance here from an ILE/M fan fiction page.

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Now there's a scary thought! It should involved beards, fake breasts, muppets, Lloyd Cole and Alan McGee

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Pinefox? Feh" sighed Doompatrol. "*I'm* pine-ing for that FOXY Masonic Boom." He shifted his lithe Canadian frame slightly on the bar stool and called for another Armadillo....

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I hope this isn't going the way I suspect. DP slash fiction (or any ILE posters) would be a very grim prospect indeed, though I can see certain people begging for Ally slash fiction.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

DP slash fiction [...]

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! It should have been ME!

I'm sorry; I haven't gotten enough sleep.

Dan Perry, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!

Stop it! Just stop it!!! I'm so embarrassed... turning red... I can't take it! That was a bait!!! aaarrrggghhhhh!!!!!!!

etc. etc. and so on.

masonic boom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

He wants to "hurt" you, you know.

Nicole, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Some titles you fan-fictioneers may find useful: Sin Family DoominTroll; the Sexploits of Doom'n'Poppa; DoominBimbo and Big McGee

mark s, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I could totally write some slash fiction, what does that mean again? I'll do it, whatever it is.

Ally, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Not that I'm saying anyone should actually start this, but a thread, called Sin Family DoominTroll, with each poster posting a paragraph of a story at a time - sort of like the ILE Only Connect, perhaps....uh....

Tom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That sounds like a great great great idea. Then I can find out what you people are talking about, for christ's sake.

Ally, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

with each poster posting a paragraph of a story at a time - sort of like the ILE Only Connect, perhaps....uh....

YES!!! I was on a mailing list once where we used to do this, and it was GRATE FUN!!! However, you do have to have fairly careful rules about who gets to post in what order and how often, or else you have *real* continuity problems, and also, certain bigmouths tend to take over the story to the exclusion of the lesser-posting people. (Not implying who that would BE or anything.)

But, if we can sort out how we can do it, it would be amazing!

masonic boom, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think the story thing is a great idea. Gives me something to do at work, too.

But anyway, people I've met... RickyT, Chris, Ned, Tom, Cabbage... I've met more people than I can remember in fact. I've even met people and not realised it because I've been in a Strange Fruit stress. Oh, and I've met Kate, too...

Paul Strange, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Perhaps, should such a thing happen (the pass-the-dutchie story thread), then the person posting should NOMINATE the next person to continue the thread, yes? It might become incestuous, of course, since only the most active posters will be activated. Not that things aren't incestuous as is, of course.

David Raposa, Monday, 2 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Um, maybe limit to nominating someone who hasn't been nominated/contributed in the past 5 (or maybe 10?) entries? That way it would stay somewhat fresh and not be hogged by a handful of people.

Nicole, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For the record, I want as little as possible to do with writing it. I'd enjoy reading it (possibly) but I'm a crap writer.

Ally, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Never!

the pinefox, Tuesday, 3 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

People I've met are Madchen, Cabbage, Stevie T, Pinefox, Sarah Clarkey, Lixibelle, Carsmile, Honey, Kevan, Paul, Tom, Pete perhaps, Tim H, Nick Dastoor, Steady Mike, er, is that all? Don't think I've met drunken Kate although I have seen her around, on stage etc. I fancy Stevie T. The person I least want to meet is Pinefox, but he keeps following me.

Ally C, Monday, 9 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hey, I'm invisible!

youn, Sunday, 22 July 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

one month passes...
i have now also met Ned, Emma, Pete, Richard T and Sarah, and then, in a seperate incident i also met Suzy, Kate and Mark S.

gareth, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Last time I forgot Cabbageboy and Youn, for which I am sorry, and I have met DG, Suzy, Alex, Pete, Emma et al., for which I am also sorry.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have now met Emma and Pete for certain, and now there's Phil. I apologise to Youn. I have met her too.

Ally C, Wednesday, 22 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Almost met up with you guys. but I was too busy having a sip from my friend's Pablo drink (absynthe!) and watching the Posies at Poptones. Maybe next time.Or maybe I ran into Stevie T there unknowingly. hah!

nathalie, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

dave up there was LYING, as he slept on my floor in december of '00 and watched me have a big boy freak-out at that time as well.

also i have met sterling, mike daddino, dave morris, and starry sarah. i think that is it. i have been in the same room as many people here as well i think thanks to the terrastocks, but that was before my rapid ascent and just-as-rapid decline into and outta internet fame, so, yeah. that.

maura, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, dude. I could make up excuses, but that would be inexcusable. (Was it December? I thought it was February of THIS year. Man, my sense of time is gonzo.) (And let it be known that I owe YOU a bona- fide freakout as well. Be warned. Bwah hah hah.)

I have also met the incomporable Ally K., one lonely night in Boston. She was also kind enough to let me sleep in her abode, this being a room @ the Ritz in Boston. Such generosity kept me from crashing my car as I made my way back to Connecticut. Despite her tough-as-nails exterior, she's a nice gal. But y'all knew that already.

David Raposa, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But what about her ass? Big?

Josh, Friday, 24 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maura - shh, nobody's supposed to know my last name. Otherwise my parents will find this thread on Google (they search for my name daily and send nasty e-mails to people exhibiting naked phots of me, just like Alyssa Milano's mom does for her) and read my posts about dirty filthy sex stuff, and then all will be lost. Lost!

Dave M., Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Josh, I am on RECORD for saying that her ass is just fine. Don't matter what she says, she is WRONG. I've scientific proof and everything.

David Raposa, Saturday, 25 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)
