i did wigs for a while when i was growing out my hair early transition... i was self-conscious about my alopecia (people keep calling it "MPB" and I keep thinking they're talking about Caetano Veloso and getting confused, so I always call it alopecia). the lady at cysterwigs does really good video reviews that helped me figure out what i was looking for out of a wig. mostly i went with shorter ones because long ones are just kind of a pain to take care of. anyway as it turns out i have wonderful naturally curly hair and once that started becoming apparent i gave up on wigs pretty quickly. still, for that year i enjoyed being able to change up my look depending on what i felt like, and wig care was comparatively easy compared to hair care.

Heard a great wig story the other day. My wife plays pickleball with a diverse group, some of whom are a lot older than she is. The topic of wigs came up and one of the guys, a real political lefty in his '60s, started talking about his days wearing a wig. He had a full head of hair, so my wife asked him why he used to wear a wig. He told her that back during Vietnam he managed to dodge the draft, but they eventually caught up with him and, I guess as some sort of compromise, he ended up in the Air Force reserves. Never ended up going anywhere, but they did shave his head to buzzcut military spec, so this guy, a stalwart hippie, bought a long haired wig to wear on the weekends to fit in when he hung out at all his hippie haunts!
