Isn't that such a strange sentiment? To always say, "love America", like a freako Christian woudl always say "I love jesus?" It's just a form of government made up of statutes. I'll be back guys, gonna pack another bowl.

I, for one, Burt Stanton, DO love America. I love the people. I love our sports. I love you and your lovers also. I love how we are in the North. I love how how the average foot in America is roughly 12 inches long. I love how we define down our qualifications for major offices so that it more closely approximates the average citizen's ability. I low our large televisions. I'M LOVIN IT

I don't know if I can speak to you if you're going to call yours (Mackro Mackro), Sunday, 2 November 2008 07:56 (sixteen years ago)

It seems to me that if you say that, you're saying it because someone attacked it, or because someone's casting doubt on your patriotism. But most of the time, people say it because they're imagining one of those and warding it of preemptively.

I live in Oregon. I love Oregon. Oregon isn't a form of government; it is a place. A wonderful place. Some people live here. I try to live with them on good terms, but it is sometimes a trial.

America is also a place and I also love it, but with somewhat less specificity. The same thing applies to the people in America as in oregon. The form of government thing is kind of important, but most of the details of that government are not.

I used to dis my country a lot until I heeded "love it or leave it" and then for years I found myself defending it while living elsewhere; when I came back finally I loved it and now my love is mixed with anger and resentment. It's a deep complicated love. Love/hate. I don't think the US is number one -- don't think in those terms and generally feel we can learn from places who have longer histories with democracy. The landscape, though, man -- the landscape! It's a fucking beautiful country. And our food. The other countries can say what they want. We got great food.

I think if you're an educated person, a student of history, you should immediately distrust nationalism. But this is a pretty great country. Certainly not the best. We're a bully, an unruly kid with the most creative ideas. We're unfettered by tradition. We are loud and obnoxious. God I love us.

I'll love us so much more if Obama is elected. If McCain somehow wins, nix everything I said and substitute "God I hate this country"

Maria :D, Monday, 3 November 2008 05:20 (sixteen years ago)

If McCain somehow wins, I will stuff my entire fist into my mouth and start chewing. 'Frustrated' would not begin to describe it, but not 'hopeless'. Not that. More like 'past hope and past hopelessness'.

When I am done I will go back to living as sensibly as I can, being helpful when the chance offers, and attempting to draw as much poison as I can out of the USA's wounds. I am an American. I know I can never be anything else.

Aimless, Monday, 3 November 2008 05:34 (sixteen years ago)

BTW, if McCain's win had any suspicion or odor of fraud about it, I would call for a general strike by next Friday and stop working until it was resolved. Those bastards WILL NOT steal another one.

I love America. I love it quite a lot. I love the way we don't have a coup, bloodless or not, every couple years, like, for instance, Thailand. I love that there's never been anything remotely like our Constitution, our legal system, our way of managing capitalism (uh... fingers crossed), but especially I love our attitude, which is uniquely ballsalicious. I don't mean the stupid Bush Doctrine, and I don't mean Horatio Alger, I just mean the "Let's do this shit" action movie attitude that is only strengthened the more people we let in past the gate. I love that shit out of that. I love the way we're going to have a black president. Come on, you have to love that, right?

Yeah, I love America. No, I really do.
