One film I was in love with as a kid was My Science Project. I recently started showing it to my friends when I learned that they had never seen it, surprised to see that it held up incredibly well as a cheesy 80s classic (esp when taken with some booze). It was such a part of my childhood that it's hard to believe it's not very well-known. It has it all; ridiculous catch phrases ("Sit on this, buttplug!"), teenage shenanigans, a sweet and mismatched romance, zombies invading a high school, classic 80s lightning special effects, Dennis Hopper throwing in references to Easy Rider and Blue Velvet, and an indispensable 80s pop song that repeats the title over and over again.
Classic.

Why are you wearing sunglasses at night time? 'cause when you're cool, the sun shines on you twenty-four hours a day!

blue velvet in-jokes would be strange since it was released in fall of '86 and this is from '85

Interesting to juxtapose Fisher Stevens' Jersey greaser in this w/ his subsequent "Indian blackface" routine in Short Circuit. He is truly an 80s gem, a lost talent who is due to be dusted off for reappraisal. Perhaps a leading role on a television show ala Jon Cryer or Patrick Dempsey?
I remember loving this movie as a kid. It kind of got lost in the shuffle of lolz-tastic 80s teen classics re-circulated for their ironic campness. Where have you gone Monster Squad and Three O'Clock High?

Monster Squad's got a pretty big cult following, actually

Woah, that's bizarre. Tell me the scene where he huffs that gas doesn't make you think of Frank Booth. Time travel indeed.

Best part is when Fisher pulls that lever and makes his car flip the bird.
