How long should polls last? VERY IMPORTANT

Poll Closing Date: Monday, 1 April 2075 00:00 (in 48 years)

I usually make mine to last a couple of days -- I figure you can get a reliable enough sample by then, and you don't have to wait around burning with anticipation. (Like right now, I want to see the damn GTA results.) And discussion can continue after the ballots have been counted of course.

Two weeks maximum. I'm gonna be 99 when the results of this poll come through :(

I think two weeks is a good length. Anything shorter than a week will produce a totally skewed result if you don't have it active at both weektime and weekend, due to the different crowds that populate this place at peak and non-peak times.

That year-long poll about the presidency was pretty darn cool, though.

finishing between tues and fri is a good thing. So people get a last chance to vote and everyone can see the results

I'd say 4-5 days is best. Anything longer than that and it eventually drops off the new answers page, only to return a week later with a "this poll will end tomorrow" message so that one guy can post "Voted for Chic, still love the Bees Gees tho".
